camcover refurb

Looking good!

Have you got a more detailed account of what exactly you did? Mine OK but I could see bubbling under the black, and then when she was at the body shop last weekend I used the compressed air to blow off excess dust from the engine bay and "poof" off went a lot of the paint!! So I thought I would do that this weekend but I only have shiney (silk) black in the heat proof paint. I think your matt looks much better and standard too! Anyway, a detailed account would be fab please.

Plus, you have the rust on the chrome in exactly the same area as me! But I have more! (Rust that is lol!!)

And I bet its not 3pounds in germany

EBC 3888 €5.37. Of course if you had the economical 3.2 it would be only €5.11. Bargain!!

Ahhh! But the 2.9 badge (EAC9679)is £16.40!!!

David

That's either a) because it's a V12 head and valve cover or b) they only sell 1 a year so have no economy of scale!

I will have to do mine at some point soon as the paint is coming off and will also be after a new camcover badge sticker thing. Do JDHT have any for the 3.6?

Looking in the Haynes manual it shows an early camcover with a set of six seals around the spark plug wells which it recommends you renew when refitting the camcover.

I have a late camcover with the oil filler cap built in to the top of it. Is there the same six seals and has anyone replaced them in the process?

I presume the outer seal of the cover to head is just a bead of one's favourite silicone seal - any recommendations?

My late cover doesn't have shiny fins so I'm looking forward to how it might look when it does :D

Yes yours does and I'll be surprised if you don't have oil in the plug holes , most do , so it's a good idea to replace them [ EAC4049 £1.96 + vat ] x6 of course , you will also need the rear half moon seal [ C30431 £4.14 + ] , the main seal is EAC 2912 , £10.92 + vat .

A simple and very rewarding job just don't over tighten the camcover screws , a small bead of instant gasket silicone makes sure it seals although i don't believe it's absolutely necessary , the rear half moon seal on the other hand needs it in my opinion .
