Re: Gearbox mount rubber donut position

Carrot cake has its uses and works much better than black rubber, sadly doesn't last as long. I'll have to look at mine too, I bet its not even there anymore.

Re: Question on front shocks

I find with mine that if the shock is fully decompressed and with the wheel up, shock rod doesn't spin. If its on wheels - it does and I have to use a large adjustable spanner to hold it in place to tighten up the top nut.

Re: L399GYP 1993 3.2S

Nice to put all new clean parts together, how was your fight with the wishbone bushes? Press? Compressed directly on rubber? Fuel lines are normally only bad at the rear, even my XJS fuel lines are fine front to 3/4 end of the car, then its a bit of a different story from there  You're planning...

Re: Engine Oil - Whats best?

Exactly, if you change oil regularly it doesn't really matter what oil you use. I normally use Castrol 10w-40 or 15w-40, depending on which is cheaper, one of them is usually discounted once per year and that's when I get it and change it.

Re: eBay motor bin.

How you even noticed that Naki?

Looks like some plastic retainers, maybe one screw from the ashtray, hard to say.

Great car though, looks pretty much brand new to me.

Re: Panic button failure

The auto electrician has verified (maybe) that the button works. There is probably a problem between the button and the control unit. He says that to understand and repair the fault it is necessary to disassemble the whole dashboard. I don't want, for a small problem, to risk breaking something els...

Excluding all the electrical issues then clearly!

I thought about mentioning electrics as this could potentially be a specialist job but then if you have an auto electrician nearby, XJ40 with its schematics is much much easier to work on than any newer car.

I could never understand this. Past few jobs that might require a specialist, 40 is as easy to work on as it gets, its pretty much all mechanical

Haha! I'm not sure I'd be brave enough to attempt 60 with its brakes
