Re: Lurch and lumpy gear change on 3.2 xj40

How about the rear outer fulcrum bearings ? Mine were badly shot, resulting in slack and noise. The bore for the LH fulcrum bearings in the hub is actually too loose, so I still get a small noise when changing from reverse to forward, but at least my toe-in/toe-out is now staying within reasonable l...

Re: Main Meet 2020

I think you islanders are whining a bit. These cars are excellent long distance cruisers.
We have appr. 1000 km to Dover, so any UK location is a bit of a journey for us.
Could we do it in the Netherlands next year, then we all (except Pim and a few others) have some distance to go... :D

Re: Also bitten by the XJ-S bug...

Nice !

New injector rubbers I suspect ? They often make much more clicking noise.

And no overrun valves. Now I consider removing mine to get some exhaust popping :)

Re: Forum server

Could it be something more general ?

I have been logged off from several pages including this one, and I guess that is normally something caused by safety issues and updates in Windows

It's not all bad. Any car is expensive to buy, and that means maintenance costs seems to be smaller. At least when measured in percent or compared to depreciation on newer cars...

Re: Hi from Denmark. Daimler DS Majestic Insignia '94

My best guess is that the Danish import tax has killed the dream of getting this on the road here... How do they work out the tax there Leo? Is it a set price or does it go on age, engine size etc? Import tax on a used 0-35 year old car used to be around 65% of the estimated sales value. Easy, if t...

Re: Smokey from one exhaust pipe.

As its only one exhaust it means its only one bank of cylinders? the car had been sitting about 4 years prior to my purchasing it so could be sticky valve. The gearbox oil connected to exhaust? I understand any work on the bowls of the engine will be a big job. Will need to be 100% sure on the faul...

Re: Gearbox mount rubber donut position

The setup shown below works for me. 70 mile drive today, no issues or funny sounds. I had the cat section of the exhaust down while working on the issue as I expected I had to maybe take down the driveshaft to be able to fix it, and that revealed a broken exit tube and some cracks at the tube v-spli...
