Re: 1994 Daimler Double Six

What rotten luck.
When similar happened to me the insurance company gave me a cash settlement which was more than enough to get the car repaired at a less expensive body shop. And of course I kept the car.

Re: L992RVC Moroccan xjr

Well I cheated and used a spare rack from a sovereign I had in the shed. They look identical (XJR above and Sovereign below in the pic) and the serial numbers are the same so thought it was worth trying. Also the fixing bolts were pretty mangled so it seems likely that the rack has been replaced. 20...

Re: L992RVC Moroccan xjr

Yes,I believe it is the original re-valved XJR rack. I reckon the seals are shot. Putting on full lock to the right draws fluid into the gaitor as it extends, and when you reverse lock the fluid in the gaitor is compressed and spurts out. Just rang Pro Power Steering in Lakeside and they reckon arou...

Its a great feeling when you finally fix a long standing fault. Those fuse boxes cause a lot of "hard to pin down" or the even worse "intermittent" electrical faults.

Re: 1994 Daimler Double Six

All sounds very fixable. I think condensers for the V12 are hard to come by but if it worked last year then its likely that its only failed now due to gradual loss of refrigerant. I have to top up mine with a Halfords top up bottle at least once a year to keep them working.

Re: Which is the better purchase - 1990 XJ40 or 1994 XJ81?

If its a choice between a 30000 mile XJ81 in Moroccan red/magnolia or a 97000 mile blue/grey XJ40, all else being equal in terms of overall condition, then I'd suggest the lower mileage car in what is currently a desirable colour scheme would be a better investment. However that could change if when...

Re: L992RVC Moroccan xjr

More power steering problems. This time I seem to be losing fluid from the drivers side steering rack gaiter. 20190813_184159.jpg This picture was taken with the gaiter fully extended. If I turn the steering wheel full lock in the opposite direction until the gaiter is fully compressed, i get a squi...

Re: New member - Kingfisher XJ81 in East Sussex

I've been in touch with Greg (the owner) about an unrelated matter. He usually has several projects on the go and he had to make space for an XJS that required less welding than the XJ12, so sadly he decided to move on the P38 and the XJ12.

Re: eBay motor bin.

Yes, S443KCS. My old P38 which he bought as a non-runner. The engine had blown as well as many other problems. He bravely took it on and seems to have sorted it out. Looks very smart in the pics. I could never get the air con to work either.
