Re: Starter motor

I have to replace some heater hoses and have to disassemble the intake manifold for that. Is this a good time to replace the starter motor? Or is this no major help? Sometimes it makes crunchy noises after starting. I read only horrible stories about unscrew the starter.... not one positive thing. ...

Re: Saint who?

Well done Norman.
It is not easy to find a good garage anywhere, and I imagine it’s even harder over your way. But now you have found a competent bunch of professionals, it will be forever useful.
Hopefully you can actually use it again now.

Re: XJ40 4.0 low coolant sensor

That’s more of an unusual symptom. Normally I think these sensors either work or do not with. I can only assume there’s a poor connection somewhere, that then warms up and makes good?
I would still suggest you remove and inspect the sensor.

Great.
They can certainly take a fair bit of encouragement to get apart. Those locating lugs severely restrict the angles to get them apart. Which means you have to separate them simultaneously in more than one location.

Re: XJ40 Wanted

So many of these cars sit around neglected/ unused for long periods of time. So it’s not unusual to find “new issues” arise.

Re: '89 Sovereign 3.6 gearbox

If you get that small bolt out too, the the bell housing can still often need some encouragement to come apart. Wd40 around the edge, then hammer in a long chisel/ big screw driver around the edges to help push it apart. There are two locating lugs that can be a bit stuck. Don’t forget the starter m...

Re: '89 Sovereign 3.6 gearbox

On the 3.6, there is a small bolt near the bottom, that looks different to all the other bolts. A few times I have forgotten about them, because they are usually covered in gunk/ hidden. Wire brush off any muck near the bottom to see.

Standard failure point unfortunately.
Most of mine have needed all the same fixes.
There’s plenty of posts on the subject on here.

Re: CPS

86-90 use DBC2139, with the big round plug.

£170.29+vat.

Or buy the cheap one and swap the plugs.
