Sachs Super Touring with the part number you mentioned is a 'conventional' shock absorber, which means your car has had the SLSL-to-normal conversion.

Worn valve stem seals usually show at startup, rather than when warm?

Are you sure it is oil smoke, i.e. blueish in colour?
Have you noticed above-average oil consumption?

Really going for broke on this one then? :lol: It's a Jag, Naki, so it will not be cheap anyhow... ;) This was probably the only old part in the conversion kit, all others have either been overhauled or were brand new items. One more step in the right direction: custom-made Goodridge braided/Teflon coated clutch hose to replace the old'un. It's of course another part that is NLA at Jaguar, this uprated alternative set me back no more than a few tenners! https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/40648751043_b3c7214801_c.jpg

The recommended tools to tighten/undo the upper shocker nut are vise grips to lock the shock absorber shaft/thread and a (ratchet) ring spanner for the nut.

Just found this on the interwebs, the result of my project (manual conversion, exhausts, intake) should be similar-ish...



A shame patience is not my strongest point, can't wait to have it back from the workshop and drive it!
