Re: Lower steering column

It's basically that the steering wheel cannot be centered properly because the zero point wanders from day to day. That would actually point to the V-mounts IMO. Did you check these? They are more prone to failure on the V12 due to the weight of the engine. It had replaced them with some "OEM&...

Re: Lower steering column

I guess I will chime in here. The part you are referring to is indeed the steering damper. There has to be some play in it, otherwise I won't "damp". Therefore, upper and lower parts are connected by some vulcanized rubber inside. The play however is limited by two excentric metal stops - ...

Re: Xj81 Running Rough on idle

Low or high idle due to a poorly working AAV doesn't throw VCM error codes or a CEL. If the CEL comes on, there should be an error code. You will need to read the code. If you have e.g. dripping injectors causing a rich mixture, failing O2 sensor(s) you will have error codes. Check for those first. ...

Re: Xj81 Running Rough on idle

620 rpm is too low for a warm engine. Spec is 750 in Park/Neutral and 650 in D. I would definitely check the AAV first, adjust idle screw to above values. If this doesn't work, clean AAV. Only if the AAV then doesn't work to get an acceptable idle on a cold engine, I would proceed further. On well u...

Re: Living with Lady Penelope in the Wild Wild West

I had posted an XJ12 repro condenser source in another thread:
https://www.xj40.com/viewtopic.php?f=33&t=998442&p=184981#p184981

No need to go through the hassles of having a custom unit made. This one fits and works.

Re: Daimler Double Six - 1993 - J6DXJ

Dear XJ81 friends, it may be poorly advertised, but with a tiny bit of googling ( https://www.google.de/search?q=MMC7390AB ) I found this AC condenser which is a copy of the original: https://www.coolcar-automotive.nl/OEM-nummer-MMC7390AB-Condenser-Jaquar-XJ12-(88-94)_15_67909.html . It is consequen...

Re: Engine vibrating after warm-start

From memory: Should be for the factory fog lights. Since your car doesn't have them, then the connector is open. Check on the right side, you should find another one....

Re: Air-con rebuild - how does the condenser fit ?

I strongly suggest to remove the bonnet first. This facilitates access significantly. Then remove the radiator/condenser cover plate. There is no need to remove any cooling system hoses. As said, the condenser can be removed, a second person pushing and holding the radiator in the direction of the e...
