I remember doing my thermostat. The manual instructs the use of a sealant around the thermostat body and if I remember rightly there were no gaskets involved.

Similar sealing method was probably used for this item?

However, it wasn't a silicone sealer, some special sealing paste was specified.

I've driven one of these as a loan vehicle when my car was getting a service. Same colour too. I found it was pretty good fun and would consider one if it was in good condition.

I use 10W40 semi-synthetic from any very well known major brand. (Shell, Castrol, Gulf etc)

A friendly comment for your safety: those springs are supposed to come out before you remove the sub-assembly. :shock: The dampers are presumably wedging the wishbones from extending further?
