Re: Lower steering column

I've heard about another case in a german Jaguar forum (but could also have been a X300/308) and one of the part dealers I talked to told me that he had several requests for that part in the past (that's actually why he has none left). So it's surely not as common as a leaking steering pump or a wor...

Re: Lower steering column

I guess your part is RHD? As you already stated from VIN 673... LHD und RHD are different part numbers :( . I have already called/mailed various part dealers but none has that part available. There is a used one offered in the Netherlands, maybe that could be an option. But I am a bit insecure wheth...

Lower steering column

Hello, I think I finally found the reason for the play in my steering, it's the lower steering column. To be exactly, the clearance where the lower joint is put into the steering column itself. The play directly corresponds to the amount the steering wheel can be turned without the wheels moving. Un...

Re: STEERING RACK PLAY

This is a old thread but I think it gives the right explanation for the issues I am facing with my steering and the inability to adjust it correctly. When my Jag has been parked over night (so it is completely cold), I can turn the steering wheel maybe 1,5-2 inches without having the tires actually ...

Re: Something is getting too hot...

Indeed it was a Halogen light, it's getting pretty hot, but I thought I put it far away enough from the car in order to prevent damage. After having looked more thoroughly at the melted spot it seems that the heat must have been coming from the front and not from behind (the radiator side) so it loo...

Re: Something is getting too hot...

Made a little trip today and took my infrared thermometer with me. Measured temperature of front spoiler and radiator at various spots on various occasions and noted the following: - left side of the radiator is always a bit cooler than right side, so is the front spoiler - temperature right after s...

Something is getting too hot...

and causes my front spoiler to melt  : http://www16.picfront.org/picture/IlDBlvYm184/thb/DSC_4968_k.JPG The last times I was driving with AC on and according to the dash gauge temperate was fine, I could also hear both cooler fans working. The area that got melted was really hot after the rid...

Re: Asymmetric steering/suspension

I guess you both mean adjusting the track rods with the steering wheel fixed in centered position? That's what they actually did. And as long as the car doesn't move, everything is fine. Even when rolling slowly forwards, the steering wheel still keeps centered. But when driving ~15kph or more, the ...

Re: Asymmetric steering/suspension

Actually I was hoping that this difference would explain the difference in rear camber - any other explanation (like worn bushes, factory tolerances) would be even more devious, I think. I had another test-drive and measured again this time the difference was a bit less than 10mm (~2/5 inch). It see...

Re: Asymmetric steering/suspension

As I said earlier, it is the springs, the REAR springs primarily, that affect your ride height. My car uses spring packers to achieve even left-to-right height. If yours is off, then it is almost certainly due to spring packers being omitted on one side when the car was converted from self-leveling...
