Re: Misfire

Hi, I can relate to this problem, when I first purchased my 40 17 years ago it was not looked after very well and the guy who owned it previously ( a work collegue ) he had so many issues with it mainly non servicing he wanted shot of it and I brought it very cheaply. Didn't test drive it before buy...

Re: My XJ40 Daimler After Work On Underneath

Like yourself , i too am too old to contemplate this level of restoration , it's heavy work and you must have spent an awful long time getting this good , a truly magnificent achievement many of us can only aspire to , Derek.. I agree with you Derek, a magnificent achievement and yes, it's got to b...

Re: XJ40 4.0 re-birth.

I've been busy with the car re-painting and have spent many hours wet sanding and DA wet polishing so am posting a few pictures of the progress so far, wings have been painted off the car and are now fitted and lined up which took a while to get good shut lines between doors and bonnet  as the...

Did you rub off the chrome plating?

Re: 1987 Daimler XJ40, Moorland Green, low mileage

I agree with the door handle problem, you see so many for sale with broken, inoperative or misaligned, if my car had this issue it would drive me crazy, but knowing of the door handle issue from years ago I am well aware of the issue as probably most of the forum are. My question is and I don't want ...

Re: My XJ40 Daimler After Work On Underneath

Wow that is very tidy, it looks like this was all disassembled cleaned up, painted or is it powder coated and reassembled. A lot of work but very clean and to be admired, even though it's not seen most of the time this how I aspire mine to be underneath but sadly I don't have the patience to get to ...

Re: 1987 Daimler XJ40, Moorland Green, low mileage

Naki, Been reading this with intrest, what a great story, cherished by a forum member and sold on and along the way fell into a little less care and now the little faults being fixed and resurrected into the car it once was. Lovely looking car that's now in safe hands, really like the colour combina...

Re: XJ40 4.0 re-birth.

Hi Aidan, I'm really getting into this re paint of the car and am enjoying the experience but I am putting lots of hours in trying to get a good finish expecially the final wet sanding and polishing process. I'm not known for making things easy for myself, it probably looks worse than it is but I ha...

Re: XJ40 4.0 re-birth.

Hi Aidan, 2 pack at home is definently a no no, even if you had an air fed mask you would need a spray booth to filter out and scrub the nasty chemicals that are used in this type of paint and is most definitely professional use only. Now I may be wrong but I don't think you can you use water based ...

Re: L275 WOR - Jaguar XJR 4.0 Auto

I eventually plan to recover my rear parcel shelf in matching leather as I did to the dashboard, I have yet to remove mine so not sure what type of board is under the fake leather material that it's covered in, not sure if this type of parcel shelf is susceptible to heat as well. As you said it may ...
