Re: Knackered Rear Shocks

Another question re rear shockers. What's the usual state of these large bushes: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-GENUINE-JAGUAR-XK8-XJ8-XJ40-X300-X308-REAR-TOP-SHOCK-ABSORBER-SPRING-MOUNT/292939909322?epid=1616113801&hash=item44349448ca:g:lkYAAOSw0QBbxzXy:rk:1:pf:1 I wondered this when I did min...

Re: Boot lid adjustment

Unless the hinge bolts to the bootlid have loosened it's hard to see how this gapping could occur. (Drastic wear of the hinge pin?)

Where the hinge bolts to the bodywork (under the rear window) can this shimmed?

Re: Knackered Rear Shocks

but deferred it until I do the Sport/XJR suspension conversion. (Don't hold your breath  ) Are we talking dogbone strut change to triangle/roll bar setup or just shocks here? You're way ahead of me here. Initially, I was just thinking of uprating the shocks and springs and rollbar(s). But the...

Re: Knackered Rear Shocks

Hi both, great explanation and photos. Superflex is the company I used to buy the bushes. After Larry said they were different I contacted them and gave them my car details. They confirmed that the set they were sending would fit my car. I am expecting the delivery tomorrow so we will wait and see?...

Re: Knackered Rear Shocks

Hey good post there Bru, great pics! Did you get each part independently or pick up a kit? Supposing a guy was going with the poly bush uppers, do SNG Barrat sell just the washers and spacer without the foam bushes? Cheers, Larry. Yes, they are available separately. The part numbers are: CBC1594 - ...

Re: Knackered Rear Shocks

I'd be surprised if you can find the late upper bush setup independently, but if you can, go for it. :) I've received all the rear shock upper mounting hardware for X300 setup from SNG Barratt (5% discount for JEC members). As previous pictures showed the bush, isolators and lower washer are differ...

Re: Knackered Rear Shocks

While the X300 top bush arrangement can come with some upgraded late (94MY) style shocks, keep in mind that 'late' shocks won't fit your car; you have pressed steel wishbones with springs that rest on a plate on the shock - the 'late' style has cast wishbones that support the spring directly. The l...

Re: Knackered Rear Shocks

My rear shocks are in need of changing, and I'm in the process of ordering new ones as well making sure I have the x300 type upper bushing arrangement, as described above. What I'm concerned about is a note of caution in the Haynes Manual ( :!: ) which states that you shouldn't attempt to compress t...

Re: Question on front shocks

I just recently replaced my front shocks and found that the suspension "hangs" from the shock - the shock limits the drop of the suspension arm. So, I used a trolley jack to raise the arm a bit to take the load off the bottom shock bolt and top shock nut, then lowered it for ease of remova...

Re: a pair of rear bump stops acquired

Do these commonly wear out / deteriorate?
If they don't, it could explain they rarity and hence high price when they do appear.
