The end of the world is coming

Postby bigjagjim 66 » Mon Jun 15, 2009 6:09 pm

Hi all,is it only me having all the fun that you get with early cars. The brakes that did pulse and the end of the world is coming dashboard.I dont know what diff ratio is on my 3.6 but its far quicker that my 4.0 daimler.I did wonder if the brake servo off the x300 would go on it,but the system has been ok for the last few years after lots off work.I have to say you dont see many early cars on ebay or on the road,i cant think of the last time i came across another 3.6 on the road here most will have gone to the show room in the sky.

There is a well documented brake up grade for the early cars, David marks has it on his 1986 pre production car, and someone on here dug out the link some time back

i agree most early cars are now long gone, there was 1988, 19K mile from new 2.9 Manual at Thoresby, and I had one here the other week, a 3.6 Sov on a 'G', so a late one, a car I sold back in jan 2008, the new owner is a good friend, so he bought it back for a once over and to stock up on spare parts, I gave him all the info to join xj40.com, but whether he did or not is another matter!!, and those are the last two i have seen. I did in 2006 attempt to find a good early 1986 car for the 20 year celebrations, sadly I failed despite a huge search and even wanted ads everywhere
if it ain't sideways, it ain't serious

My owns 89 on a [F] 1/2/89 and i have owned it about 7 years, its like an old friend.Strange how these cars get under your skin,my wife thinks im mad with all the time and money i put in them.BUT when her brand new german car wont start or the gearbox all but falls out then its a case of "can i take the daimler?" Do you think we could have a register to see what cars we have between us?

Hi. I've just joined the forum. My own 1988 3.6 (on an F plate ) has 103,000 on the old clock. Although I have recently replaced the entire binacle as the digital displays worked occasionally ( when one hits a bump ) . I put her in for the MOT on Monday and got a call from the garage in the afternoon informing me that she had failed and the brake were not efficient. Re. the warning light, I put them in the direction of the VCM Monitor . They said they would take advice from Jaguar. Anyhow they phoned back and said they had made a mistake and she's ready to be picked up. My car was previously owned by "Mr Moonlight", Frankie Vaughan. Pictures coming soon.
MC.

Thank god its not only me who gets told rubbish, just think how many get told this and go away with a fail and sell or scrap cars because of it.I am in northern ireland and you have to go to government test centres here and the times i have had the same rubbish told to me about abs lights not working even when the early cars dont have them like the later cars do.I am allways told that the book they are given at test centres says all xj40 have a abs light that goes on and off as per the later cars also the book they have says all xj40 had abs brakes which is untrue.I drove an early 2.9 that didnt have abs,but the main thing is you got the mot in the end.Mr moonlight wont need a jag unless he bought a new one at the dealership in the sky

Vacuum servo.
I think they usually use the servo from a S3?
I think the X300 one is the wrong size? Shame, as the x300 one would be much cheaper and easier to find.

Ah okay, that makes sense now, I think I was hoping for some magical elixir for the original system.

Yeah, all the kits I've seen have used the vacuum servo from an S3 and most seem to be in America for some reason
