Oops.. no headlight washers on Daimler :-)

Postby RedXJ40 » Mon Jan 28, 2019 12:17 pm

I own this Daimler for about 3,5 years now, but today i noticed there should be headlight washers on the front bumper, but they are not there
I guess at some day it got a new front bumper, or a new rust free steel insert, i don't know?
I guess headlight washers were standard on Daimlers in 1991?

Just a thought ... Maybe to check if any pipe work exists under or behind the bumper or grille :?: ....

Not necessarily... :ugeek:

The wiring looms for XJ40s were mostly one size fits all, and included wiring for options that might not feature on your car.
You know whether your car was originally fitted with front fogs if you have the corresponding switch on the LH side of your dash...

If you want to retrofit them, you will need the fog lights (purely ornamental with halogen bulbs, they melt as quickly as an ice cream in the Sahara  ) and the dashboard switch to get everything to work.

I did that upgrade on my Sovereign a while ago:

Before: blanking plate instead of switch

Blanking plate removed: note the 'on' indication LED is present already!

Donor PCB, showing the switch layout including front fogs. I cleaned the plastic switch and fitted that onto the PCB shown in the previous pics.

And I forgot to mention the connectors for the heated headlamp washer nozzles, they may or may not be hiding somewhere inside your front bumper...

Yes.
Almost certainly, the car has had a replacement bumper fitted, without the washers. You should see a blanked section of hose from the washer reservoir. It’s on the RH side.
Finding goods bumper centre chrome ms is not easy now, so I would be happy to have those over washer jets. Though I understand you want all the original features present and correct.

Front fog lights were a cost option on battery under bonnet models. The wiring looms are standardised to allow the easy addition of options.
The yellow round plug is for the fog lamps.
If you check, you will likely find a blanking plug fitted. This has a built in resistor to fool the lamp modules, so that they do not show a bulb fail.

Thanks for the great info Naki!

Vince attended me on a Ebay add with the correct bumper with foglights and washers for a small price, but i spended my
monthly car budget already, so i think i won't buy that bumper.
The bumper on my Daimler is in like new condition so it would be stupid changing that bumper for one with washers i guess.
I could glue washer caps on them so it looks correct
Anyone has partnumbers on these?
