Well what blows me away is that they ask for all this info, which is all well and good, but then some of the stuff is still blank. I sent the one for the XJ12c in, and they didn't record the dealer it went to, or the original owner. Now granted, I know who the owner was but have no idea which of the 2 (at the time) dealerships it came from. Sadly, that's the info I wanted the most.

I think that is the “body” number Don. They shouldn’t need this info, surely?

Your VIN should be found in three places.

On a sticker inside the door aperture Lower B post, of the LHF door.

Inset into the lower front left windscreen.

Stamped into the metal on the inner RH wing.

That’s what I thought, how much info do they want ?? Surely chassis/vin and engine number is all they need ??

Well with my XJ12c, they wanted every number that was stamped on the car. Here's it's number plates that I had to submit.

OK, so went out today and got the numbers from behind the rear bumper. There's 2 number plates though and I have no idea what the numbers mean. Ideas?

They're the body (in white) number: ID tags added to 'empty' car shells before they hit the assembly line.

Scroll up for Don's pic of one of those tags earlier in this topic.
AFAIK there is no logical connection between the body number and the VIN... :?

Well these are painted the same color as the car (black) and I'm assuming one number is the body number, but then what's the other number?

So the number in the LEFT side, behind the bumper is 4JS405-1366301.

The number in the RIGHT side, behind the bumper is 2P12628

Is this what I'm looking for? What the number on the right side if the left is the body number? Ideas?

This is the body number, as Pim described. It is of unpainted aluminium as in Don's image above.
I don't recognise the other number.
