Fog lights to LEDs

Postby kabeir » Thu Dec 06, 2018 12:31 am

I just put in two LED fog lights on my car. Both work. But the car says I have a bulb out with them. I tired pluging and unpluging them to see if it resets. Any ideas on how to fix.

Thanks.

And yes if you can tell, I do have a Great Britin plate on my car. And it is legal in NY

As far as I know you have to put a resistor in the line to let the BFM know there's a "bulb" in there because it works on resistance and the LED is way low on the scale. That's why the BFM triggers the bulb out warning. If you put a resistor in the line the resistor is gonna get hot, so you will have to get a really big one and find somewhere to house it where it can disperse the heat it generates.

Haven't done this myself but read quite a bit about folks trying out LED's and above is what I remember from other peoples posts. Archives should have some detailed posts about it, try this search for more info:

good luck
ps you could always put a bit of tape over the bulb out dash light and pretend all is well  (not recommended)
