On the underside of the left intake manifold (left-hand drive) two of the three hose ports are blocked. However how should they be blocked off? Is there a plug that goes directly into the manifold or should the barbed hose connectors be capped off? I purchased two intake plugs thinking they are for this purpose but there is no way to fit them as far as I can see. They are small solid aluminum discs probably 4mm thick. Thanks

Yes they should be capped off. They perish from the heat over time and fall off.
The part you need is EBC80043 Still available new from main dealers.
Though a short section of rubber hose with a bolt in the end will do the same job (even if it’s temporary). You may find a past owner as adjusted the air valve to compensate for the air leak through these lost caps? I have seen it happen a number of times.
