6.0 extra air valve EBC1198

6.0 extra air valve EBC1198

Has anyone managed to repair one of these?
They are thermostatically controlled apparently, and just like a normal thermostat, they eventually cease to operate correctly.
Quite expensive new too, naturally.

This helpful, Naki?
https://forums.jag-lovers.com/t/auxilia ... e/370126/8

There's a chap on Facebook who offers a rebuild service for 5.3 (XJ-S) air valves, he might be able to do the same for a 6.0 item?
Apparently the 5.3 and 6.0 AAVs aren't too different from eachother...

It appears that you'll need one of these:

Considering the full price of full valve I'd give it a shot(after watching pics from that thread that Pim mentioned). Seems should be fairly easy job, just need to make sure to assemble it exactly the same way.

Equivalent part, should be ok too.

Good find.
Sometimes I am amazed these components still exist for such old cars. Unless it’s used in another car that’s more modern,
Definitely good options, assuming they fit.

From part number I found on multiple websites it's a direct fit so hopefully it does. At that price I suspect worth a try and will be an interesting excercise to find out :)

It's probably just seized. I used this procedure to fix it on my XJ-S.
Credit for the write-up goes to Grant Francis:

you can ' refurbish ' them to a certain degree, a good clean will help a lot

however,

after cleaning mine, then replacing with a used one and still having trouble, i bit the bullet and bought a proper one from jaguar them selves

and have had trouble free V12 motoring since

sometime you just got to jump in with both feet..

Its a thermostat after all, its filled with an oil which leaks eventually apparently so replacement bulb is minimum to fix the whole thing when a quick clean doesn't work.
