Re: Front heated windscreen

Thought I would update this. We had a cold spell recently and I had to use my heating. Switched it on in the morning only to find this:

Image

Got really annoyed :x Called autoglass, I don't think I managed to say 10 words and the customer support already booked a guy to come and check my windscreen two days later. He came in after 1pm, looked at the photo and an hour later I had a new windscreen fitted. Works great again 8-)

I know its only few days a year but damn it helps, literally 2 minutes and its good to go, dont have to scrape the ice, just sit down and warm up

Cant say a bad word about autoglass either, their aftersales were great.

Totally agree.
Only the ES spec has it on the Discovery 1&2.
And when the air con gives up, as they do, it will be the only way to quickly clear the screen.

Just as useful in a jag though.

My 94 XJ40 has the heated windshield (still works) but the screen itself has a few scratches, wiper haze etc -...is the X300 screen identical to the 40's? If so, I might spring for one b/c I'm told the heated version isn't available for the 40 ...

No sadly as far as I can recall the 300's screen is not the same as the XJ40 screen.

I can not recall exactly what is different though!!! It may be the size or the black border, but I can not say for sure??

Again from memory the 93/94my cars are also different from the older ones as well, again I can not recall in what way.

I'm pretty sure that they are different too.

Looks like you might need a warm afternoon with some cerium oxide.

Already had a few of those afternoons - will try and find out what the difference is a report back (possibly before afternoons become sunny again :) )

Well even though it isn't warm out today, I just checked at JHT and looks like the late XJ40 and early VIN X300's DO use the same heated windscreen and share the same (unavailable) part number, JLM11269 :o
