Please do!

Reading up on endeavours like your transplant & restore pushes me to raise the bar of my own spannering adventures...

Keep up the good work!

Yesterday I started the engine for the first time after it broke down. Turned over twice and roared back to life! it runs beautiful, so I have good faith the engine survived the drama.

on to the wiring now!

Good work Wil. All looks so familiar. Seems these jags are all the same under the skin.

I nearly bought a series jag a few times but storage space conspired against me. Now that problem is solved (temporarily), I might be tempted, if the right/ interesting car comes along.

The rust I am working on is very typical indeed. But I think what happens is very hard to foresee as an engineer.

It starts as a bad spot next to the front screen. Not under the window rubber but just on a horizontal spot where I thnk water stays a bit longer than on places where it runs of better. RUst begins....

when it has eaten through the first layer of sheet metal, it falls through and gets trapped in the a-pillar.... it is just a matter of time before the bottem of this trap is rotten away. Than on it goes in two directions. behind the front wings and lower into the hollow sills under the front doors. This can rot away to the outside, making the sill look ugly or to the inside where rust can start eating away the floor panels...

Really sad it happens

So how do you propose to protect these areas long term (other than dry store the car and never use it).

I used some waxoyl under the screen finisher rubber on a 40 before. Hidden from view, but hopefully protecting things better than without.

Well, first cut out rust, and replace it with solid steel.

Next thing is just using good paints/epoxy/filler etc and then just upkeeping of the bodywork.

The car had been standing outside for 10 years when I bought it, so nobody saw the rust starting. I am looking at it weekly, so I will notice when a bad spot occurs. At least, that is the strategy :D

since I now have a job, income and all, I decided to, finally, buy a modern daily driver. Picked it up yesterday. Of course it needs work. The alternator doesn't work. Already bought a replacement unit. I specifically wanted an Alfa Romeo as they are well known for their reliability and build quility!  :D

only 138.000 km. (86.000 miles that is)!

I think the old jag has been good training for you, so am sure there won't be anything you cannot handle on the Alfa.

There is so much going on with my jaguar but I keep forgetting to take pictures.

I should make some tomorrow.... Updates without pics are useless!

Finally, some updates. See for yourself:

What I did:

- empty interior
- fabricate a completely new wiring loom
- weld rusted spots/holes.

it's work in progress but I'm getting there.

The amount of work, thought, time, effort and enthusiasm that goes into something like that scares the hell out of me.
Ik ben heel trots op jouw.
