Jaguar x300 not cranking

Postby boyan » Thu Nov 17, 2016 9:02 pm

Hi guys
Got this x300 on an N reg for unusual repair 58.000 on the clock very clean and nice over all car . Problem is car starts fine runs nice and 15 minutes later the engine just cuts off ! witch is not so odd but when trying to crank the engine again nothing happens no fuel pump no starter motor but all the dash lights are on as they shoud be ! Some power cut off of somewhere of some sort has any body ever experience same problem or maybe give me some clues what could course for the power to cut off just suddenly it comes back with in the next few minutes and runs again but its so anoying dont know what to look for thanks

Worn CPS?

They are fine when cold when they're almost gone, but play up when the engine's warm.

my guess would be an intermittent issue with the security module. these can die at any age/ mileage. Its worth checking its plugged in properly/ with a good connection/ good pins.
I seem to remember Kieran had something similar on his old XJR6.
Look in the boot under the fuel filler gator. May have got wet too?

If it doesn't even crank then as Naki said, it might be security modules. Alternatively, right in the passenger footwell, up behind the carpet on the left side you will see a huge plug going into passenger inner wing, if this is loose and if it cut out you will get exactly the same thing as you described. All the lights on on the dash but nothing else!

Thank you for your advice gouys ill try few of this sugested things and report back how i got on ! But this total power loss on the key with ignitoin on worrys me
i out roole the crank sensor as i had this go before - car will still be cranking ! so its somthing with a power suply to the ignition in my opinion as nothing on the key when you turn but all the dash lights are on as i said ! so will have a good look this module for dump and dry connections so would i check the conectors under the p/s foot well ! Is there power suply reley any were on the car that can play up ? worth looking and maybe swaping for another ....

Probably worth sticking it on a code reader too? That might through up some clues?

I thinks that's the most standard fault code, that does not and any specific fault. Very helpful, huh! :?

I would check all earth points too, plus if course the battery connections.

Also try a new CPS. They can do intermittent.
