Sorry Rory but I left had left the motor trade by the time the KV6 was first fitted into the 800's, so I will be of no use to you at all!

I only know the previous Honda 2.7's (and 2.5's) that were very good engines indeed.

I always thought the 2.7 was the Honda engine and the 2.5 was the Rover one........or was it the other way round??

Always found the front wheel drive couldn't really cope with a V6 or that is how it felt when a I drove a couple.......

But I have to say the 800s are still good value (if you can find any) and also the Rover 75 with a V6 2.5, Connoisseur spec!

First there was the Honda 2.5 V6, then a Honda 2.7 V6, finally the rover 2.5 V6
And we thought the 40 was confusing!

This is Car magazine from November 1987...
Interesting trio... Jag, Vauxhall and Rover.

Jag wins by the way- interesting that it the magazine has still been given one of the Dunkeld cars :?

Interesting. So the media did consider these three cars to be up against each other.
I wonder if D22 is a 2.9 though? I think the 2.9 was pitched very much at a different market than the high spec models.

It was the 3.6!
Not surprising it had better performance :D
It was only £500 more expensive than the rover and £600 more expensive than the Vauxhall according to Car at £20,400!

Interesting. I thought the Jag was quite a bit more? It must be Povo spec though surely? Maybe it’s only in Daimler spec that they were much more expensive.

Rory is correct I worked on cars with the Honda 2.5 V6 then the Honda 2.7 V6, I can not recall a single engine problem.

The XJ40's were very competitively priced when they were launched. The 2.9 XJ6 manual with cloth trim was less than some Ford Granada’s as well as less than the 2.5 rover and even the Volvo 760.
I can recall that there were quite a few poverty spec. XJ40’s about at that time and it was probably this low price as to why there were quite a few sold in that form as company cars. It was a lot of car for the money.
