Jaguar XJR-S: £9,000 - £12,000
This might miss the ‘genuinely cheap’ target by a country mile, but it’s dripping in provenance. The XJS was plucked from the Jaguar production line in 1988 and sent to the part-Tom Walkinshaw owned JaguarSport business, where it was transformed into the test-bed for the production XJR-S.
This 6.0-litre V12 GT car offered supercar levels of performance, with a top speed of 160mph.

As soon as I see that "orrosion" word I tend to lose a bit of interest .... I have recently bought a car and found one for someone ... Combined age of them 23 years combined mileage less than 55k miles, two M.O.T fails (one a piece) one for an indicator bulb faded from being yellow ! And the other headlamp alignment ... not bad for seventeen or eighteen tests ... ;)
Life begins at Forty !... I was born with nothing, I seem to have most of it left.

Fair comment. Its just that once the M.O.T. person has wielded the "toffee hammer" and passed judgement its all a bit like the "plague" somehow ... I much prefer to grease those ferrules and wipe road springs with waxoil ... Better (I feel) not to get that "orrosion" word on the history .... ?

I guess the new owner did not materialise in the end? Nothing unusual about that when a old Jaguar is for sale. Think about how many times you see the “relisted due to time waster”, in Jaguar adverts.
It still looks like a good car, but I think most old Jags have ropey MOT fails/ advisories by now. Especially an XJS.
I went to see one locally to me a few weeks ago.
Supposedly 45,000 mikes but still iffy on the underside. What hope is there for them?

Ah yes the time waster .... I think the new generation of "Ladybird Books" should be created for such beings.https://www.penguin.co.uk/articles/book ... grown-ups/ Part of the problem for Jaguars is that they are considered by some, (in my humble opinion) as somewhat aspirational and that aspiration, can be a (very) expensive experience .... The typical "time waster" usually on the one hand, has limited funds whilst on the other, expects the world and its partner, to have plenty of time and beverage to lavish on them............... :x
