Sudden Death Game

Postby Dazstap » Fri Jun 14, 2019 9:27 am

Hello all,

I hope you're all well?

A bit of advice please, as I have had a search through the forum for this but have not found anyone else having this issue.

Took my 40 out this morning to have a small wheel refurb (local garage damaged the centres using a breaker bar and too short an extension). I got about 100 yards from my driveway when it just cut out. It was under load, not idling, travelling at around 25-30mph. There was no warning, no sputtering, just cut out.

I pulled over, gave it a minute and restarted. She started like nothing had happened and ran as sweet as ever.

However, she then did this again within a mile or so. Given that I had a reasonable journey to make on Essex's finest dual carriageway, I decided to bring her home rather than chance playing the sudden death game.

Both times though, no warning, no hesitation, just cuts out.

Any suggestions?

Thank you

Hi Daz , mine did this a few years ago & was very intermitant , but after alot of serching , swearing & finaly having to be recovered back home i found it to be the fuel pump , mine being an early car , had an external pump & when it cut out i gave it a tap with a screwdriver & on it came again . I ended up replaceing the pump & all has been ok since . Hope this helps , Paul .

Thank you for your advice.
Strangely, I took it out last night and drove it for over an hour and it behaved perfectly. I tried everything to try and make it stall, but nope, not even a hesitation.

I've recently experienced C.S.P. issues with "another" car ..... L O N G story short, it seems in my case at least, it wasn't so much the sensor, as its wiring ... Going hard / Insulation brittle and failing when hot ... I have a spare Jaguar type sensor here BTW ... I also have TWO (one to go on the car) spare V.W. ones now too :!: ;)
Life begins at Forty !... I was born with nothing, I seem to have most of it left.

Sounds like a classic CPS fail.
