High oil pressure and coolant light

Postby xjr41 » Tue Jul 09, 2019 11:24 am

Anyone else experienced their oil pressure guage going straight to 8? Car has been sitting a long time, at a slight incline. Got it started and although everything seems fine, the oil pressure needle goes all the way round to the 8. I know a dead sensor causes it to drop but can it also work the other way?

Also the red coolant light is on although the reservoir has fluid in it and there are no leaks. Again, sensor issue? Or something more?

Damaged signal wire?
A false earth might take that gauge needle to the end of the scale...

Does it immediately pop up to 8, or does it take some time?
In the latter case it could still be a sensor, although - as you said - they tend to fail the other way round!

Faulty coolant sensors on older model years are a known PITA, there should be more about that topic on this forum...
