interior mirror

Postby iainm9438 » Wed Oct 14, 2009 6:34 pm

hi all,

i have just been a complete numpty and knocked off the interior mirror :o

ok, i though, i'll just clip it back on...... nope just broke it even more :(

i have now pulled off the arm that holds the mirror to make way for a new one.

has anyone got a spare unit that i could buy?

also, how do you clip the arm back in? it seems very difficult as it has 2 spring loaded pins that i am struggling with

regards
Iain

Loads of the bloody things here, how many do you want, 12.00 inc recorded post, I have them on ebay at 9.99, so a BARGAIN!!!

Offer it up to the "socket", and with a hide or nylon mallet give it a sharp whack, on the flat face and it will pop in dead easy

Hope this helps

Hi guys,

meet my interior auto dim mirror. Could you please help me to find out whether it is HMD3121AA or HXF3121AA? I can't see any difference between them. It should be HMD as the HXF is replacement mounted into X300. Is anybody here able to verify it according to VIN? Daimler DoubleSix XJ81 MY1994 (manufactured 9/1993).

(Apologies for the low quality picture - the car is currently in the service and I have only this picture in my phone.)

Thank you!

the difference is actually the screen mount,

you have the round boss with triangular spring clip type used in the very late xj40 and very early x300 , the HMD version

then they went to use a square mount ,

what is wrong with yours ?

there is good news,

doesn't matter which mirror you get as a replacement, the mount will swap from one to the other as the ball fix into the back of the mirror is the same and the cable cover comes off easily allowing the wiring to be put through the mount.....

Thank you for the explanation! It doesn't dim :) I will send it to repair (probably here: http://www.radar-mirror.com/Mirror_Repair.html) but in the meantime I consider buying a spare one. The HMDs cost around EUR/USD 140 which is not that bad and I can always sell it.

I think I have one more spare here, the later one, with a button instead of a slider. 80GBP, PM for details.

Thank you for the offer but I'd like to keep the car in factory setup. On ebay I've found some older HMD for 100 USD (incl. shipping) so I'll probably go for it.

i would check its plugged in first, and also take the slider button from the ' off ' setting you have it on

a way to test is during daylight is put your finger over the sensor facing the screen , this will fool it into thinking your being dazzled from behind

also

there is a reverse gear inhibit wire which stops it from dimming when reversing, ensure this isn't holding it off ( stopping it from operating )

ps, i have one in my car, but also have a spare.....

Nope, it has a bubble. It seems like the liquid is all in the bottom part. As a result, the visibility is not sharp. It's not much visible in the picture but it is in there. I had the same issue with Audi long years ago.

yup, that needs replacing

make sure it doesn't leak onto the interior, it will burn the lacquer on the wood

easy swap once you get the parts though
