Radio Antenna DAB splitter?

Postby Quaduplex » Thu May 03, 2018 8:56 am

Hi all,

Has anyone ever used a DAB aerial splitter with the stock xj40 antenna? The splitter instructions say it’s unsuitable for amplified aerials. If I remember correctly the xj40 isn’t amplified just electric up/down. I’d rather not have another aerial somewhere on the car be it windscreen or roof etc.

Not done it myself. There is no amp in the antenna as far as I know.

However please note that the XJ40 antenna goes up and down using pulsed earth signals from the original head unit. It will not go up and down using any other head unit.

However this will be fine if you are still using the original head unit with a DAB add-on unit.

LOL why on earth does it use that method?? What’s wrong with a good old fashioned switched earth not pulsed?

Is just the late model ‘40? Something has jogged my memory about reading this phenomenon before.

I could graft in an early antenna and use the same line. Keep it all stock and reversible is my preference. I have spares of both early and late antennas.

Would just like to add an update on this....

1993 (94) XJ6 Gold - Sony DAB head unit and splitter works superbly. Antenna extends with radio on and retracts with radio off. No issues. DAB reception is very, very good. Much better than a foil window type antenna.
