Headlight washer J connector part interchangeability

Postby Rok_Dr » Sat Sep 10, 2016 9:08 am

Hi all

Though I have managed to fix the bodged up broken headlamp washer J connector, I'm still after a new part as I suspect that over time the pressure will result in the repair again failing.

As to be expected the part no DBC12082 is NLA on the Jaguar spares site. A search on Ebay threw up an NOS one in the USA, but at a starting bid price of US$50, with postage quoted at almost US$70, I'm passing.

Back to Jaguar classic spares and looking at the X300 catalogue shows a very similar looking connector with the part number LJA7071AA at a far more reasonable $33 AUD.

So would this part be interchangeable or is there something different about it (different hose diamenter ??) which is why it's is not listed for the XJ40.

Cheers

Hi Steve,

Just had an 'aha!' moment when I realised that Bast has a tee piece in that spot.... So she is obviously missing that 'J' connector/valve too! I tried all of the usual tricks to compare the X300 unit to the '40 unit online, but sadly I can't work out if the hose is the same diameter or not :(

Best,

I would be looking for a brass plumbing fitting T piece. The plastic J piece is just asking to be broken, especially considering the feed hose is too short, that you can't take the Bumper off with just two hands!

The hoses are very hard. The only way to remove them off a J piece connector, is to support the bumper just off its mounts (I used tall paint pots), then use a heat gun to soften the hose.

Starbuck, Naki,

That's interesting. For my first effort I also replaced the J connector with a T piece. But when I topped up the washer bottle I got a gentle siphoning of water out of the headlight washers until the level/head dropped in the bottle.

It was then I realised that the J connector had valve in it to stop such behaviour and I refitted it with hose clamps on the repair hose piece and so far so good.

Surprisingly I didn't have a lot of trouble removing the hoses and I supported the bumper using a couple of axle stands.

Cheers

T-piece needed is 10mm diameter, easy to get (long live internet!) from online aquarium shops.

I have just the same on the Sovereign: broke the J-piece when rebuilding the bumper after its little incident and replaced it with a cheap aquarium T-piece.
Still need to replace it with a J/T-piece with a built-in non-return valve....

The illustrations on the JCP site confuse things:

DBC12082 is also used on the late XJS but the illustration shows it as a T-piece:

http://www.jaguarclassicparts.com/uk/part/DBC12082

LJA7071AA, which is the X300 part mentioned in the original post, is also the number for the XK8 but again the illustration looks different to the X300 page:

http://www.jaguarclassicparts.com/uk/pa ... =lja7071aa

As regards diameter, the same hose clip DAC6421 is used for the XJS, XK8 and X300 so you would assume the tube diameter is the same.

There are a couple of sites in the US showing DBC12082, although again the illustrations are different and whether they have it in stock is another matter:

http://www.jaguarpartsinternational.com ... -55142.htm

http://jaguar.socalbritishparts.com/p/J ... 12082.html

Finally, there are non-Jaguar options that might do the job at reasonable cost if the diameter can be verified - DNB000020 from a Rover 400 or DNE100050 from a Landrover Discovery:

Hi Adrian et al,

Beat me to it by that much. When I was outside a couple of hours ago I stuck my head under the Rangie front bumper to check the hoses and it also has the same 'J' valve as the Disco. Next stop was to measure the hoses on Bast to see if they are the same diameter and if so the Rangie/Disco unit looked like a good bet at the price.

As with Lady P, Bast gradually loses her fluid from the headlamp washer circuit. Based on Naki's point about the hose being too short, I think using a longer supply hose and one of the Disco valves would be the ideal solution for most people as it would allow the bumper to be pulled away from the car far enough to remove the hose more easily.

Best,

Hi Adrian et al

Many thanks for the exhaustive post with alternative parts listings. I'm most appreciative.

The Disco 2 one is readily available at a modest price so when I next put in put in an order for Charlie I'll grab one. It looks the same in the original parts catalogue, but later versions appear to have a single valve.

I do like the idea of a separate non return valve and hose extension as well.

Cheers

If someone could post up some drawings of one of these parts - including some idea of the non-return valve part - I will have a go at designing a 3D printed part as a replacement.

Further to my post yesterday, I had a vague recollection of seeing something similar in my parts mountain and sure enough I actually have a Discovery one on sale on ebay at the moment. This is the valve with hose and is LR part number AWR6437. I measured the diameter (ignoring the flare) at 8mm which conflicts with the 10mm Pim mentioned above, so it may not be suitable for the 40 after all, although the design does look identical to that on the XJ40 parts diagram. The hose length is 64cm.

Just as with the changes to this part for the Jaguar models, it looks like Landrover have changed the design of it. The part I have is old stock and you can see the difference with the valve in the current part number AWR6437 here:
