Paint Repair

Postby Roger90 » Mon Mar 13, 2017 2:38 am

I have to repair some paint on all doors of my '90 U.S. spec Majestic. The color code is CF4 - Regency Red Metallic polyurethane base coat clear coat.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to approach this?

Thanks,
Roger

Perhaps post pictures of the effected areas.
Do you plan on doing the work yourself?

I plan on doing the work myself. My Majestic had dealer applied side moulding along the bottoms of the doors.
It all looked like h**l, so I removed it. Some of the paint lifted under the moulding and should be repaired - something I can do.

Painting is a bit of a Dark Art i think.
Its so much about the details. The preparation, equipment, technique.
Also blending new pair to old, so that theres a good shade match.
Others on here would be able to advise better.

Thanks Naki. I've painted cars in the past. IMO, prep is key, I do have the tools and will "attack" one small spot at a time. I have rattle cans of CF4 and a clear, however, they are both acrylic paint and yellow soon after they are applied and the spray is just too large for the small chips that need repair. To be sure I'm obsessed with the paint, but my car is beautiful and a trophy winner (classic British elegance is one trophy). I'll get some 2 part base coat, clear and a bit of primer and make my repairs the correct way.

If it's s show car, I would think it's worth investing in a professional paint job? I think rattle cans have their limitations, in terms of what it's even possible to achieve? Of course it all comes down to money as usual. How much do you want to spend?
Old Del Boy on here has done a good thread in home painting with cans.

I too would seek professional advice, but then I am not very good and paintwork!

They will match the new paint to the actual colour of the car and not to a code.
