Tyre size for 18" Pentas on my XJ12

I picked up a set of the 18" Penta wheels locally a while back and wanted to fit them to my XJ12 to see how they look and fit. The tires they came with are 235/45/18, which is a little different from the 255/40/18 that I believe Jaguar fitted on the XJR X308 models.

The tires are old so I'd debating on whether to keep the Pentas on the car, and if so what size tires to fit. I've only driven a little bit but haven't had any rubbing and I really like the look of the wheels. I'm inclined to go with new 235/45/18 as they are very similar size overall to 225/60/16s and they are plenty wide for my taste and seem to fit the wheel well sufficiently. Any thoughts on advantages/disadvantages to going with 255/40/18 instead? I know the car would sit slightly lower, but I've read of other owners needing to use a spacer to avoid rubbing issues up front with that size.

They do look good. Badass in fact.
255 width will likely increase tramlining. They will highlight/ exaggerate any weakness on the front bushes pretty quickly.
It’s not really necessary to have tyres any wider that 235 on this car, even though they can look good. I would stick with 235 size ideally.

Thanks for the input Naki. I'm going to drive it a bit more before committing, but will likely stick with the Penta wheels and fit some new 235/45/18s.

Ok. I think that’s wise/ better for ride and handling.
