Managed to get the screws out of the diff.
When refilling I made a big mess in the driveway.... just when my girlfriend arrived. She was not amused!

Now after 2 weeks not driving the car I noticed that there was a drop of fresh oil on the drain plug. Cleaned the whole are and tightened filler and drain plug a bit.
Fingers crossed that its sealed properly now.

so was it relatively straight forward though?
and how did the old oil look?
which oil did you use to refil? did you say you have limited slip in this car?

After the screws went off the job was easy.
The oil looked better than I expected it was dark brown. Not the disgusting black sludge I have seen before.
There was very little metal dust on the magnet on the drain screw.
To me it looked that the oil was changed earlier in the cars life.

When lifted up the wheels rotate in the same direction. So I guess its a limited slip.
I can read CKN on the diff housing. I thought Salisbury made the limited slip diffs.

I used Castrol Axle Z 90 Limited Slip oil.

sounds like good news all round! ;)
not many sovereigns have LSD, let alone a non leaking one.
most of the 40 diffs i have seen say Salisbury (LSD and standard) on them, but no idea about any other manufacturer? Dana possibly?

I did a bit of research.

The manufacturer is GKN.
http://www.gkn.com/driveline/Pages/default.aspx

Their emblem is on my diff.
The flexible Jurid coupling is also made by GKN.

its was a cost option across the range, and not an expensive one at that. circa £280 from most of the price lists i have seen. shame more buyers did not go for it.
