Thanks Naki,
Until I pulled it off I thought it was meant to be black

Been doing a bit more tonight.
Put the air con pump and power steering pump back in.

Plus prepped these up tonight for fitting tomorrow evening.

Not pictured but I have also prepped and painted the battery holder and clamp plus the raidiator lower cross member for fitting tomorrow evening.

Maybe I'm taking this a bit to far but I have left the foam battery cushion in soak in bleach overnight, let's see how this comes up tomorrow. :?

Very pretty indeed! Excellent work ;) Two questions:

1. What sort of a black paint are you using on these?
2. What paint are you using on the lower radiator support panel? If I can suggest something, I'd go for something considerably thicker on there, plenty to choose from(underbody sealant).

I'm pretty sure I've mentioned it too, but in case I forgot, make sure to use new o-rings wherever they are used on the AC, otherwise you'll be taking it all apart soon again after first regass and since the system was opened up and kept like this for a while, you'll need a new drier bottle too. Luckily not expensive and well worth it. I assume you did get a new condenser eventually as the old one fallen apart?

PS
I dont think bleach will remove rusty deposits from that foam, you'd need citric acid(edible) for that. I've tried ;)

Hi Katar83,
Thank you.

To answer your questions, I'm using good old smoothrite paint, always used this in my off roading days and it lasted and performed well.

Yes you have mentioned to me before about the o rings on the air conditioning and all these will be changed in due course. Haven't got the condenser yet, that's on the next shopping list and thanks for the tip about the drier bottle.

The foam pad for the battery funnily enough turned out not to bad after a night in soak and a good scrub. Not perfect but the battery will cover it and felt I needed to clean it.

Tonight was slow progress, I couldn't beleive how much time it took me to remount the gearbox transmission cooler pipes to the sump brackets, very little room and very fiddly but it had to all go back correctly. Got it done but it took me one and a half hours plus I re fitted the starter and alternator.

Had a little dumb head scratching moment with the alternator, mounted it up and hooked on the surpentine belt and I thought sod it they have sold me whe wrong one, it's far too long. Thought about it for a minute and realised I hadn't mounted the water pump yet.

Time to pack up for tonight.

Sorry but, what are these bags for? Are they some sort of Jaguar branded sports bag, like for golf shoes?

Hi Aidan,
I suppose you could use them for what ever you want, I saw these on one of carlmt posts and these will fit in the boot of car either side and fit just nice on the flat surface of the inner arch part. I brought these to keep consumables in like fluids and maybe some small spares.

They aren't branded by Jaguar but are very good value for what they are, well made.

These are mine - slightly different from Gary's but essentially do the same job - I keep cleaning products in one and the first aid kit and hi-viz jackets in the other:

Right then, the last week and a bit have been a little slow. I didn't realise how time consuming it was going to be cleaning each individual ancillary and painting some parts before I reinstalled them back on the engine or in the engine bay, not that I'm going for a concourse finish just a nice presentable engine bay that will be nice to work on in the future without getting dirty :D

Also I had a slight hiccup with a dodgy raidiator that has held me up a little that I thought was good to go again but had to source another good replacement and Naki came to my rescue again, the plan was to be in a position for this weekend to hopefully fire the the engine up but that will now be in the coming week.

Still, I'm really enjoying the process of putting it all back together again and look forward to getting it up and running.

I'll post up some pictures when it's all back together :D

Refurbing everything as you put it all back together is the best part i find , it will last a good time too , don't forget it took twenty years to get in the mucky condition , i've recently done a similar job on the Rover's engine bay and now it's much more pleasant to work on , i had a split hose spurting out petrol this week and because it was so clean it was easy to spot exactly where it was coming from , keep up the good work :)
