Another popular spot for water entry - near the footwell fuse boxes ...here's how it gets in ...water runs down the wiring harness, gathers at the big grommet and eventually you get this ...

(not my car btw!)

Bulkhead rust is scaring me. I'm a good welder, but getting the dash out for access is a horrible concept.

I don't know my car yet, to know what I'm looking at alas - Where is that ^^^^ photo on the bodyshell ?

Thanks I think

Getting the dash out is actually quite easy on these cars,

Hmmm - that isn't pretty - but a definite possibility. A bit easier to fix than the bulkhead ----- maybe ?

This is an interior shot looking at the firewall / bulkhead on top of the transmission tunnel where the HVAC unit normally sits / is situated.
This is a worse case scenario but is easily doable, the dash actually being very easy to remove / refit as long as you take lots of photos / make notes.

It might be worth stripping the carpets/underlay out and leave the car stood in rain to see if you can pin point where the water is entering. I found my leak by pouring rust killer into the plenum and found it trickling down the side of the transmission tunnel.
