Well done , i know what you mean about trauma , scrapper has a habit of the side lights not working all the way to the MOT , they always seem to fix themselves in time though

I think it's because i don't do much night driving , i've changed that relay and the bfm but still the problem persists , wasn't it one of our newer members who cured it by changing the main lighting switch ?

Was that a john Cleese style whacking with a large branch? It might come to that one day.

So are you keeping it on the road over winter?

A typical knee bolster beating session eh Chris - standard procedure for all XJ40 owners when in the vicinity of an MOT station!

Yes. I think it will suffer if left under a cover for months.

The replacement for the squishy air hose has just arrived. It doesnt look like the picture on the JCP web site. Its solid rubber without the tape wrap. Made in China to Jaguar's specification ! Its far stronger than what I have at the moment, which I suspect was damaged when someone tried to install it without removing the AAV first, hence kinking the side wall.

I noticed during the mot there's the beginning of a couple of small holes in one centre section exhaust box so will get the mig out this weekend.

They suffer when used in winter and suffer when not used. Can't win. Heated garages are the stuff of legends.

Good news on he hose then. I think it will make a noticeable difference.
Lucky it was available really, as so few of these things are now. Even if it is 10p worth of hose for £10!

Thank you man of kent

This pic shows how the inside layer of the old hose has completely balooned out, reducing the air flow by a third:

With the replacement hose the idle speed was 500rpm higher, so Ive been able to wind the adjuster right in to get back to 650rpm hot idle. Seems to have improved general running too. I thought it was quick before but now its ridiculous.

It is amazing how much difference a small thing like that can make. I didn't know it would increase power too?

Perhaps a 0-60 time trial against a 4.0 is needed?
