XJR Janpeed Bi-Turbo

Postby TWR_Jaguar » Sat Feb 22, 2014 8:46 pm

Well, she finally arrived yesterday evening. And out I went this morning to go see her for the first time in proper light. There is certainly a nice sized list of things to sort out but it is manageable. With the MOT and insurance sorted, I just need to get some road tax on Monday and I should be hunky dorry.

Engine wise, I have a miss under 2000rpm. I've managed to track it down to cylinder 2 but I suspect it is the Bosch fuel injector as disconnecting it does not cause it to worsen much more. I am trying to source some replacements as they are not standard Jag types. After some research, it seems they were originally fitted to the E30 M3 Evos and 1982-1984 Volvo 760 Turbos. The part number I'm looking for 0280150355 but 0280150357 should be okay. The same flowrate and resistance but a slightly different spray pattern. I can find a new one in the UK but they are £125 a pop. Recon ones are available for $25 each I've only found the 357s. Just awaiting a reply from the suppliers on the 355s.

My airfilter is also dirty but there is a bit of confusion. It is a canister type filter but JDHT shows a panel filter. I thought maybe the one from my XJS would fit but it is too long. Then again, that is a 4.0 and the 3.6 filter may be different. If I cannot find a suitable one, I will just put a cone filter on for the time being and fit a catch tank to the breather.

The bonnet has come off today to receive some paint and will be back on tomorrow. Just black until the time comes to send the car to the bodyshop.

great to see it finally in safe hands. keep the momentum going with it though, as its easy to let it go off the boil.
how did it get on with the mot then? any advisories?
is the front spoiler brand new? looks it.

will you be driving it as it is, seen as its road legal now, or pulling it all apart?

Advisories for the MOT was slightly sticking rear brakes and rear subframe bushes. The front spoiler isn't brand new, just midway through re painting. The car will be remaining in a rolling state, shouldn't be out of action for more than a couple of weeks.

I've ordered new injectors from the states so they should be with me shortly. And yes, I will be out and about in it! :D

Managed a couple of wins today. Unfortunately due to the weather I was only able to get a few coats of primer on. Looks a lot better anyway. In addition, checked the fit of the egg crate grille I received last week.

I also carried out a compression test, dry and wet. Results seem okay but the last cylinder seems quite high.

Cylinder (dry/wet)
1: 134 / 150
2: 124 / 148
3: 141 / 150
4: 129 / 150
5: 132 / 142
6: 158 / 170

I also had the common dash problems. Had to keep smacking the top of the thing to get the dash to light up. So out it comes and just spent a couple of hours this evening resoldering every joint except the ones for the microchips. And voila, sorted- no more sore hands. I do love the digital dash.
