Finally getting onto the work to sort the WOF. Engine out to get at the bulkhead, having seen other photos decided time was right to get leveller for the engine hoist, made it an easy one man job tipping it t[list] get [list]t up and then level again to get over the grill.

And out
IMG_20200301_171026.jpg

And also to remove, while engine out and replace all suspension bushes the easy way.

Found 2 sources of oil leak on engine, front crankshaft seal and one of the half moons even though it was replaced recently. Must be crankshaft season as only recently done one of my Landies. However cant figure out how this bolt and only this bolt is oily on the exhaust manifold?

With engine out of the way can get at the corrosion, looks crusty but actually seems more surface, see what happens when get angle grinder out next weekend.

This thread is going to be required reading for me.
My 3.2S's engine will need to come out so that I can do bulklhead rust and, while I'm at it, suspension rebuild (and maybe installing airconditioning ;) . One can dream...)
Great pictures so far. Now I jes gotta git me an engine crane and some space in which to swing it... emigrate to the New World perhaps :? .

Aidan

With the engine out, I'd look into replacing all chain tensioners/guides, kinda makes sense to do it at this point, the old ones are surely knackered and new are relatively cheap.

Progress today, sub frame out and definitely justified.
IMG_20200307_154554.jpg

Pretty sure the rear bush is not supposed to look like this. Expected that as tyre rubs in reverse and steering lock over.
IMG_20200307_154617.jpg

One of the vmounts also knackered.
IMG_20200307_154536.jpg

Subframe itself very good, under the engine oil is the orginal paint and label. The bolts for the rear bushes looked like brand new and shiny which was apleasant surprise.Allthe bolts in front suspension were the same whch made dismantling straight forward. Would appear that starting life in Hong Kong is good forJags longevity. Will be put back liberally smeared in copper grease however, just to be safe.

Have theVmounts, sub frame rear and all the bushes etc for the 2 fronts. Had worried wouldd need bolts reading some peoples experience but they all came out a dream.
Gearbox rear mount is perfect.
Engne mounts are good.
Getting polybush ends for steering rack.
Getting front crankshaft oil seal.
And later today sorting the rust on the bulkhead, why I had to take the engine out.

Rust here is I understand pretty normal.
IMG_20200308_134551.jpg

And fixed.
IMG_20200308_163754.jpg

However, this is poor design, large overlap so rusted between the sheets of steel. You can see the spot welds above the rust area.

IMG_20200308_141149.jpg

Cut away, cutout and plated. POR apllied and drying, not concours so not worrying about body colour and polish here.

That corner rust means inner wing is probably gone too, did you remove the wings to check what's underneath? Again, makes sense to treat now.

Some good work going on here and looks like progress is gaining momentum, quite a long list of jobs to complete whilst the engine is out which of course is a good idea as it makes a whole host of jobs much easier to get access too and an ideal time to detail the engine and bay once complete.

look forward to your further posts of work as you go along.

Best regards.
