The Leads were fitted by Roel. It’s not certain whether they perform any different over standard, but they are working so I have not changed them.

Wow, another nearly a year without an update.
Now we have proper picture uploads, it’s time to actually add some pics! Incidentally, I can see the uploads work the same way as the JEC site, with the “place inline” button.

This little number caught me out this weekend.
Annoyingly just about the only thing that i had not checked on the car.
Thankfully the inner bearing was enough to limp into my destination.
This only failed due to a distinct lack of grease in the front hubs. I have to take responsibility for not checking. So for everyone else out there you maybe thinks the front hubs do not require any maintenance, think again.
Thankfully mine at least gave some warning with a gradually increase rumbling. I say gradually. It happened over the space of 10 minutes, fron being totally quiet, when turning off the A1, onto the M62. Then a sudden clonk, and a loader noise, as the outer bearing collapsed. This gave me time to get over to the hard shoulder. It could have been worse if both bearings were to go, as the wheel would have locked up. so I was lucky In that way.

I have always checked all my other 40s that got use on the road, but this one slipped through the net.
Replacement bearings fitted in the OSF hub now, and nicely packed with fresh grease. Likewise the NS hub has been packed with fresh grease. There was very little on there too, but the bearings were still intact/ good.

I have been using the car regularly, including a number of longer trips to London, Coventry, Yorkshire etc.
Past the MOT in April no probs.

Another unusual issue struck earlier in the year. I had never heard of/ never heard mentioned anywhere.
Crank case over pressure!
Resulting in pushing the oil out of the head upwards through the spark plug holes. On 3 different places. Clearly not just a simple failed gasket. Something very different.
This could well be unique to XJR models, due to a unique construction on one of the breather pipes. Where two pipes join, as pictured. On standard 6cyl, they are bonded together. On the XJR, it’s one pipe, its “pushed in”. Abd not actually held together my anything much. Because of this some how one pipe had gone on too far, effectively blocking the passage on the main breather pipe.
I used an old telescopic aerial to push all the way through to check for a blockage.
I have checked them in the past for any mayo/ gunk, so I know they were clear, and quietly possibly that movement ended up blocking in this place!
You never stop learning with these cars.
Anyhow, I fitted a jubilee clip to stop the hose being able to move to far in ever again. I don’t want to smell oil spilling and burning on the exhaust ever again!

I also fitted a standard air box and new filter. To compare to the cone type.

A comparison with the standard 6cyl hose in question.
Plus a close look at the “Breather Restrictor”. Another part to never really get discussed. It’s a simple little device with coolant passing through to heat it, plus a pipe going in, via a tiny pin hole, passing crank case gassed back into the manifold. That’s the idea anyhow. Except naturally that pin hole was blocked, it took a fair bit of poking with a piece of wire to open the pin hole again. Like so many things, it’s got gunked up over the years.

For anyone who’s really bored, you have something to do next weekend!

Plus a nice look at some oily spark plug wells.
All this was back in May I think. So all sorted now.
Until the next thing?

Not too far off from the truth, I fear...
