Wow, another nearly a year without an update.
Now we have proper picture uploads, it’s time to actually add some pics! Incidentally, I can see the uploads work the same way as the JEC site, with the “place inline” button.
This little number caught me out this weekend.
Annoyingly just about the only thing that i had not checked on the car.
Thankfully the inner bearing was enough to limp into my destination.
This only failed due to a distinct lack of grease in the front hubs. I have to take responsibility for not checking. So for everyone else out there you maybe thinks the front hubs do not require any maintenance, think again.
Thankfully mine at least gave some warning with a gradually increase rumbling. I say gradually. It happened over the space of 10 minutes, fron being totally quiet, when turning off the A1, onto the M62. Then a sudden clonk, and a loader noise, as the outer bearing collapsed. This gave me time to get over to the hard shoulder. It could have been worse if both bearings were to go, as the wheel would have locked up. so I was lucky In that way.
I have always checked all my other 40s that got use on the road, but this one slipped through the net.
Replacement bearings fitted in the OSF hub now, and nicely packed with fresh grease. Likewise the NS hub has been packed with fresh grease. There was very little on there too, but the bearings were still intact/ good.
