H18 SXK - Paul's 4.0 Sovereign Majestic

Postby h18spk » Sat Apr 02, 2016 7:53 pm

Well, at long last I can finally report that I have indeed bought a Jaguar Sovereign 4.0 Majestic. I just picked it up today from the one and only Mr Jenner, but bought it a couple of weeks ago and Rob took care of it and MOT'd her prior to pick up. After being severely, and I mean severely, being let down after my 13 month wait on the Daimler Double Six which now is never going to happen, I am delighted to give this car a new home in it's place. Firstly, lets go over the stats;

1994 L Jaguar Sovereign 4.0 Majestic in Moroccan Red
134,419 very pampered miles
Full history and comprehensive history
SAJJHAMD3AJ696450

I have attached some pictures below. The more observant of you will notice this car, its the ex-mayor of Leicester's car which was bought by dormouse who kept it around a week and then snapped up by Mr Jenner in 2014.

Condition the car speaks for itself. This car has a full list of all work carried out and individually and meticulously listed by its former owners and I am not exaggerating when I say that no expense has been spared. Every little detail, right down to bulbs, tyres the lot has been individually hand written and recorded and I have just sat and added it up that from the first entry on 13/05/1994 which was the purchase of its bonnet flagpole right up until its last service on 15/01/2013, the total expenditure for this car is £39,865.80. Incredible, haven't seen such meticulous and accurate history in my life. So, I will keep this list going, will add the MOT which Rob did and the £22.50 I spent on number plates today and that will bump it up over the £40,000 line and will keep a running record since so much effort has been put in over the past 22 years. I also have the badges to go on. The Black and Gold Jaguar badge which Don kindly supplied and the matching Black and Gold Majestic badge from Rob.

The car sailed through its MOT this week. Rob and Letitia very kindly took photos of underneath and are going to forward them on to me. They said it was brilliant underneath and was no rot. Its had welding in the past, like every other 40, however has been done to such a high standard that you wouldn't know.

So today I took the 40 minute train trip down to Rob's to pick her up. On arrival, Letitia had her ready and on display, sparkling clean.

As you will see above, she still has her flag base on the bonnet. I will be keeping that on there and not replacing it with a leaper. I think its only fair to keep the car as it was intended to be and as so much of its life was with Leicester Council and that flag base was put on for a reason, then it should stay as a nod to earlier life.

Inside the car you can smell the leather, no damp or musty odours. The roof lining is saggy but Rob has a brand new Majestic liner for me so that is the first thing that's getting done as I am literally wearing the other one as a hat and cant even pin it up. There are no knocks or rattles, it feels solid, a testament to the years of care it has, and when you drive this, you really feel a big difference in comfort between this and the S. The leather is beautiful, the driver bolster and all red piping is fully intact. The leather needs a bit of a clean and it will get it. Wood is like new, carpets also perfect. It comes with its original Majestic spec mats and interestingly has Champagne over mats, all in perfect condition, so I am going to cover those up to keep them looking their best.

You really can see the extra legroom!

The engine bay didn't disappoint either

Image

and neither did the boot which comprised of the Jaguar toolkit (including the often missing strap, full size Duo spare wheel and CD auto changer. The boot also contained the cars original number plates, ABC 1, a very cool thing to keep with the car.

And as previously stated, no rot. When was the last time you saw a boot lid like this

Image

I am a believer that an old car should wear its original number plates from when it was new, however as this was factory ordered by the council and put straight on to the council owned ABC 1, it never had a standard plate back in 1994. Its plate it was issued with when it was sold, L806 YVV, doesn't really count, so I have bought H18 SXK to match my every day car's private plate, H18 SPK. The football fans out there will recognise it as the local team, Hibs (Hibernian). I hate football, but the whole family has them with their initials. I wanted H18 SXJ, for Hibs XJ, but that's on a local X300, so I bought XK, as that's also a Jag and I will hopefully have an XK one day. I'm going to buy H18 SXT for the X-Type and H18 SXF just to keep in case I get an XF one day - yes, I know, I'm sad!

So, back to the car, after some time and a few cups of team, I drove the Majestic home, 20 miles or so, and it drove beautifully, and got some snaps on the way home

So that's it for now, hopefully tomorrow if its not raining, will get some pictures of both of my Moroccan's together.

Paul, if anyone deserves this car it is you. After the stress of the past 13 months it is great to see you have not lost your enthusiasm for the marque, it is literally oozing out from the pictures
Enjoy ;)

Thanks Don, nice of you to say. I wont disagree as you know the nonsense that's been going on, so glad I have this instead. ;)

What a fantastic car!!! Well done Paul - I had heard about the shenanigans, but I can see that this beauty more than makes up for the disappointments.

Are you keeping the other or will this be a replacement?

Thanks Carl :D oh no, my demonic 4.0S is staying, I don't think I could ever get rid of that. I get attached to my cars and it's a twin for the Majestic with them being Moroccan so they will be staying. I'm even selling my house to accommodate them - kidding, but garage and Jaguar storage space is very high on the tick list, which limits the choice in and around Edinburgh, but I won't have them outside.

Time to put a garage door into the living room I say!
Well done anyhow. Clearly a fabulous and rare car.
I didn't even know you were looking at these. But going over to Rob's, is enough to tempt anyone into buying something! And am sure Rob will be straight off shopping for something to fill its place!

Am glad you got something to try and make up the grief of "the other one".
I guess these two buying experiences could not have been more different!

I really need to stop visiting Rob, I end up going in to a shopping frenzy, but I'm happy, very happy, and buying experiences were night and day! With Rob, you know what you're getting, you won't be disappointed, and it doesn't take 13 months to then be let down. Lesson learned! :P

Talking of which, did you not offer on any of his XJ81? I think he said the blue V12 Majestic would be for sale (ex Roly's). Though I think it still needs work.
