My XJ40 Daimler After Work On Underneath

Postby spottroadgarage2006 » Sat Aug 18, 2018 1:08 pm

Hi This is how my Daimler looks underneath after restoration. I still have some cosmetic body work to do but its on the road in daily use. I am now going to be giving up on full restorations due to age and health so I have put on ebay lots of my surplus parts I removed from the Daimler Double Six I stripped. I have a full roof window aperture along with its motor and drive cables which I am sure some one will want but due to size and transport costs will probably go to the skip along with good but second hand exhaust bits.

Wow that is very tidy, it looks like this was all disassembled cleaned up, painted or is it powder coated and reassembled. A lot of work but very clean and to be admired, even though it's not seen most of the time this how I aspire mine to be underneath but sadly I don't have the patience to get to this standard :?

The rear axle assembly on mine will be cleaned as best as possible and painted in situe until it needs removing for major work of some sort then it may well get this treatment.

is all the underside to this standard :?:

Nice work.

What surplus parts are available, be good to know ;)

Like yourself , i too am too old to contemplate this level of restoration , it's heavy work and you must have spent an awful long time getting this good , a truly magnificent achievement many of us can only aspire to ,

I agree with you Derek, a magnificent achievement and yes, it's got to be heavy work.

Hi Thanks for the comments. Yes the whole of the underside is to the same standards. It was all stripped shot blasted and powder coated I also removed the engine and repainted the whole engine bay. Most of the exhaust is new as are all the bushes and bearings. It has been a three year job but should last a long time. I still have some bodywork to do but at least its on the road and in daily use.
I have loads of parts taken from a Daimler Double Six including all the interior trim in NDR this is on ebay but no takers so far. I have an almost complete DD6 exhaust including the front cats but its not of any interest to ebay buyers. A DD6 fuel tank and front doors also not in demand which is a pity because it goes to the local skip if not taken up.

That underside is gorgeous

I'd love to grab your exhaust as a spare for my DD6 - but I'm literally at the other end of the country.
