thinking of buying my first xj40

Postby Monty72 » Sun Oct 08, 2017 6:06 pm

HI EVERYONE, I PLAYING WITH THE IDEA OF BUYING MY FIRST XJ40, I'VE FOUD ONE NOT TOO FAR FROM WHERE I LIVE. IT'S A "G" REGISTRATION 3.6 MODEL WHICH LOOKS TO BE IN PRETTY GOOD CONDITION FROM THE PHOTOS ( OBVIOUSLY I SHALL GIVE IT A GOOD GOING OVER ONCE I GET TO VIEW IT) IT'S GOT NINE MONTHS MOT ON IT WITH NO MAJOR FAULTS ON IT'S MOT HISTORY, THE ONLY THING THAT CONCERNS ME IS THE 182 000 MILES IT'S DONE. ANY ADVICE/INPUT WOULD BE GREATLY RECIEVED.
THANKS :)

Personally at this age, i think bodywork condition, does everything work, how well its been maintained are much more pertinent facts, as to simply the numbers on the dash.
Check everywhere and underneath for rust is the most important thing. Sills, floors, arches, round the screens, rear deck, everywhere.
The engines and gearboxes will outlast the rest of the rest of the car.

Can you weld and will you do all your own maintence? if you can then even one that needs work wont be too much trouble. If you plan to pay garages to do all your work, then you would be best off buying as tidiest example you can find and afford.

Are you only looking at this example because its nearby? Or another reason this one got your attention? clearly there are many cars for sale nationwide, but i know many people don't want to travel.
