Not yet. No reply from either David Manners or Black Country Jag. Bit disappointed.

Maybe it's really rare after all. Hopefully one will turn up one day. Who knows. At least the switch still works. I've put a rubber glove over it to ensure any water runs off. Under the cover it looks identical to Lucas SSB 106.

SSB106 is appx £30. I could try to find a way of molding a rubber cover over my old switch, as it appears that is how they made it in the first place.

chances are if you can get the lucas part number, you may have a better chance of tracking it down. as it was likely used on other vehicles. i doubt lucas designed it just for the 40, especially considering how few of them had it fitted.

I've been looking all over the web using the Jag and Lucas part numbers and haven't can't find even a photo of this component, only a diagram! I've hit a brick wall with this one.

I have found some casting products that are liquid and set to make a rubber. I could make a mold and cast something that I can put over it to make something that is approximately like what I had before. However, I doubt I'll ever have the time for that.

I bet whenever I'm at the scrapyard and another XJ40 comes in, that bonnet will be lifted to see whether I can find one. It'll take all of 2 seconds to remove and I'll be grinning all the way home!

I just hope I'm not too old when that happens.

your car must be really mint and original if this is the biggest issue that needs sorting on it :?
if it was any of my cars it would be last on the list.
why not stick some pics of your car up and introduce it properly?

It's got a smack in the rear wing which rather spoils it. However, I plan to get that sorted by someone who does old style panel beating work. (I don't want lots of filler). In the meantime I'm trying to put together a "kit" of parts to replace what's making it look old with the aim of giving it a good spruce-up.

Anyone got a Rattan colour boot carpet?

I'll put some pictures up next week.

try pm xjr-ant or xj12-rob for the carpet. they usually have stuff like that.

always something that needs sorting, right?

would be interesting to see how prang is repaired, if you can post pix when its gets done?
