I did add the 3.6 master cylinder seal kit, onto list. What's interesting is they had no idea there was any demand for this part! Their only way to gauge demand is via the JCP site, relying on people clicking the "contact us" link.
I do agree, some essential parts owners will pay, for the brakes, engine or suspension.
But who here is willing to pay £275+vat for a lower radiator cradle? That's a new stock part, so gives an example of the relative price point new parts will likely be pitched at in order to be seen as viable.

I have just noticed Black Waistline seals have been remade for X300. Good news, right? A much demanded part for X300.
Though £496+vat EACH! :o

I wonder if they will be made for XJ40 too?

£496.00 + vat???? each???
I doubt any one would fork out over two grand for waist seals on a X300 or an Xj40. No one is that stupid surely.

It would be too much if it were for a full set , who selects these parts to be re made ? , i just don't get it , you can buy whole cars for less , i can only assume this is a mistake of some kind :?

This is an example of the scale of the problem. There is high demand for certain parts, but the cost to remake them in relatively small batches, can be quite considerable, plus of course the profit margin required to make a "business case" for JCP. (JCP is a business not a charity after all).
I have been in discussion with Rob Jenner and the JEC, who had a meeting with JCP to discuss which are the priority parts needed to keep our cars on the road. (Plus X300/ XJS etc).
My concern was exactly this, that some parts can be remade, but the costs are likely to be beyond what the majority of owners are willing to spend.
This is very evident of you look at some of the new stock prices.
Rear hub splash guards for example are circa £150 each!

Well in that case i would say you won't be seeing many xj40 parts re manufactured , and just how they figured people would buy those 5/600 quid waist seals , well i'd like to meet the guy that thought that was a good idea

It does look to be the case.
Hence still waiting for new rear exhaust boxes?

I just wonder how a part like that can possibly cost that much to make in the first place! What're they made of... shaved unicorn horns?!? :? Wherein lies the cost?

Thats pretty much the crux of it.
I am sure a certain part of the high quoted cost is coming from the manufacturer too (not just JCP's profit margin).

What the hell to do?
This topic came up with RJ at the Cosford meet.
He also said that some of the "engineering drawings" required to even make the parts, plus the "Tooling", no longer exits even. which makes the whole debate about production costs, null and void! This means that parts will almost certainly never be made again! :o I am not sure how many parts this effects, but apparently its an issue effecting many parts.

The topic of door handles came up too, as another example. RJ said they can be made, but the retail cost would be £400 each.
If anyone is interested in further info, outlying issues and facts, it may be worth speaking to RJ directly.

A slightly different type of question: would JCP be interested to expand their service/web site to cover the Netherlands?
(and other countries with JLR dealership networks, for that matter)
The site now suggests it's only available to UK, Germany, France, Spain, and Oz.
I've been making my money "in online" for decades and am pretty sure that they're missing out on serious revenues by the limited distribution network connected to their webshop...

Shipping costs from the UK - my only option now - often range from 'silly' to 'outrageous' to local standards, forcing me to choose other suppliers, especially for smaller orders.

Just speaking for myself: I would've ordered much more through them if I could have a similar 'deliver to your local JLR dealer' as is available for the UK et al...
