MORE POWER!!!

Postby martymarty » Thu Feb 08, 2018 7:57 am

So having the basic 2.9 engine is becoming a little boring and have been toying the idea of putting a bigger cc engine in or getting a turbo ...anyone know how to get more power out the 2.9 or am I wasting my time with it?

Cheers

Marty

The AJ6 generally is not easy to increase power on significantly.
There is a revised crank bracket that adds 5% power. For about £80. Though I don’t know if it’s compatible with the 2.9. You can ask him though.
Search Andy bracket on here.

Turbo- not so easy or as simple as strapping a turbo on. There’s a number of previous discussions on this on here already.

I would think most people would recommend a 4.0 engine as the preferred power plant for these cars. Unless you have a very specific attachment to your car, it’s probably easier to change the car then the entire drivetrain (different gearbox and diff ratio too).

The 2.9 has the same block as the 3.6 with the same bore but a shorter stroke and it is fitted with a slightly modified V12 12 valve head.
There are very few alterations that will make any difference to the performance of this engine.
If you go down the turbo path you will probably find that you will need a bespoke exhaust and inlet manifold, one extra injector per cylinder, revised camshaft profiles and a re-programed ECU.
You will only end up with about the same power output as a 4.0L!
There are just so many differences between the XJ40 engines and power trains fitting a 4.0 in your 2.9 is just not an option.

In short if you want an xj40 that goes faster then get a factory made 4.0L!

Not much in it, up to a certain speed, but the 6.0 will pull better at higher speeds.
