A couple from me today. One on the M1 a couple of weeks back and another in a Norwich multistorey yesterday, a car I'm sure I recognise from somewhere, possibly seen it before locally.

The Arctic Blue one is car 608253, built 28/11/1989, factory build Left Hand Drive export. Looks like its found its way home in 2003.

Ah, that rings a bell. I think I’ll have seen that in the workshop at our dealers. A Dubai/Middle East car if I recall correctly. Low miler too I seem to remember.

Spotted a Forty on the road this week - first one I've seen on the road in a long time. No details on it unfortunately, it was headed the opposite direction, but looked in very nice condition. Which blue is this?

American base cars are different specification to U.K. Their base cars had elements and features of our Sovereign’s

Interesting, thanks. Didn't know that. So did U.S. cars never get the matt black window frames or was it only on V12 and/or XJR models?

Yes, and they came with Sovereign Teardrops, Cruise and electric seats, all with stainless surrounds. XJR variants weren't issued to the USA in XJ40, it was later XJ'S which came with XJR trim. XJ40 also was never offered with 2.9 or 3.2 engines, and their XJ12 came with stainless too.

I knew they never took the smaller engines but didn't know the other stuff. Were black window frames even an option, presumably not?

Do you know if any of this applies to other major markets? E.G. Japan, which I don't think had smaller engines either?

And was this photo taken in Atlanta Paul? If so, it could be car 601651. My description matches up with that photo and was last known to be in Atlanta in December 2018, and is a Base Oct 89 build, 90 Registration

Yes, in Atlanta, just down the road from my office. Do you know where you received the info on this one? Just curious. I've sent you details on a few cars I've spotted on craigslist, etc, but I don't think this was one of them.

I would say no it wasn't an option as its market specific specification and if you were a American you wouldn't know any different, but if someone made a complete fuss and demanded their car didn't come with stainless i'm sure they could have made it in black if it really was that important, but I'm sure no one had that kind of time on their hands to be so picky.

I will have to go through my documents for other markets as each market was very different for various things but Japan did offer the 3.2, I have 328 of them on the Register. I don't think they got the 2.9 though as after documenting nearly 53,000 cars I have never found a Japanese 2.9

Again, really interesting, thanks very much. Looked at quite a few ex Japanese cars over here and never seen a 3.2 so just assumed.

The US/ Canada “Federal spec” models are very different to European models.
Generally different/ better spec. No 3.2’s, and no manuals!
Different Fishtanks, Daimler spec are VDP badged. A world of confusion.
