Does anyone have a clue if it’s something important that’s fallen off!

Looks like a camshaft end seal to me , have you changed the cam cover gasket recently ?

Ah ha! Thanks for the pointer.
The gasket was changed in January - and it has two seals in place.
Who knows where this one has come from then.
Perhaps it’s one of those pieces lost and have finally fallen through all the nooks and crannies!

Also know as the Half Moon seal. If it’s not accompanied by a large pool of oil, it’s likeky one that’s been changed and fallen down the back.

No puddle of oil thankfully. It looks brand new and not oily at all.

I think it must have been lost down the back if the engine when the gasket was changed too.

I shall add it to my collection of bits and pieces - might come in handy for the next one!

Finally got the fog lights working!

In the end - it was a dodgy lighting logic unit inside. Thank you to Naki for all the parts and advise along the way!

Quite happy with that. Even if it is simply cosmetic.

Swap the bulbs in them for LEDs unless you're not going to use them for more than few minutes.

Yep, I know they have a very nasty habit of melting. To be honest, I don't plan on using them. It's purely cosmetic as I think the front of the car looks a lot better with them. However, my OCD demands that if fitted - they must work!

Agreed, the car looks much better with them and when they work, just dont forget that they are one time use only with the current bulbs :)

She’s looking as fine as ever. I still chuckle that you thought you would only have one 40.
