That's a relief, BMW used this type of ZF 4HP22 box and my M535i had this and they had a habit of loosing drive due to a build up of pressure causing loss of drive usually in all forward gears and this happened to me twice. But on the third generation of 5 series they modified the box with a pressure relief drilling in it.

Good to know its electrical rather than mechanical issues.

Your 4.0l Jag box is actually ZF 4HP24, the 22 one is a mechanical box used in 3.2l Jags. Don't think I ever heard of a faulty 22 box and maybe one 24 box!

That is a releif as I have had my fair share of changing knocked auto boxes, I did think the Jaguar version was more robust.

The 4.0 is generally the favourited engine by most people.
How far are you prepared to travel to view potential cars too?

Sorry for the slow reply, I've been a bit busy. I can travel for the right car. There was quite a nice one on eBay last week with low miles and a cloth trim but, due to work, I couldn't act on it.
I don't mind something needing a bit of love/work, which if you remember what TWR was. I do like tinkering sorting things out but, I don't have the stomach for something needing a full resto!

It will depend how particular you are about cosmetics, and everything working, but you will almost certainly have work to do on the majority of examples offered for sale currently.
The usual crux is how much bodywork/ paintwork is needed?

I have one of mine for sale, but the mot is short on it now. And it will be quite far from Devon for you (I am in South Lincs now).

Lincolnshire! That's a bit of a hike. It must have been an major operation to move all your vehicles up!

As I'm in Penzance, Lincolnshire is probably one of the worst places to get to for me.

As il looking for something to keep hold of, a couple of things that I would like are no sunroof and the folding tables on the rear of the front seats and, the ultimate option would be the chiller in the rear arm rest that I had on my very first XJR, years ago!

You will need a Daimler if you want Picnic tables.

As I said, it would be far for you. BUT, if you want to find the most suitable example, it may not be on your doorstep. Depends how long you want to wait to find the car? If you can hang in then chances are something will come up nearby?

Cheers for that. I'll start refining my search. I'm not in any mad rush but, I would like to have another.
If I found the 'right' car, I would even consider selling the merc?

Ok. If you can hold out, that's always good. Especially when seaking something very particular.

It's not a Daimler, but is in Cornwall, so ticks one box?

I noticed this and am watching it.
Is there anything I need to know about the 3.2 drive train or things I should be checking?
Also, if I found a Daimler being broken and it had the seats with picnic tables, I'm guessing it would be a straightforward swap as the cars are the same?

Nothing is as straight forward as it might seem on these Mike.
Firstly, and most importantly, the seats will need to be the correct model year. Battery in boot models only. V Important, otherwise you wont have any seat movements.
Secondly check the trim codes, so the seats actually match colours. There are a few different light colours used. The most common is AEE Doeksin.
You will need the seat switches and seat ECUs. Ideally the centre console to change to accommodate the seat switches.
