I like the Radial design also a lot. Also Daimler … also 15", pity. But the 20-spokes are a nice alternative. I know some don't like it, but I personally like the Dimple also.

What is your experience with car covers?! I guess some of your care are, or were :-), outside for a year or more. My experience is that, although the moisture is not the problem many people say it is, the rubbing over the paint is a big problem and also wearing out by UV and storm of course. I did 'experiments' with a non-car-cover with a sheet of polyetheen under it, but that didn't last either. And I had a cheap car-cover from Aldi that stated that it was perfect but in tiny print that you shouldn't use it for more than three days outside :-( Indeed, after a few weeks it ripped quickly.

Best regards, Rens

I bought a 'Monsoon' cover once. It has a rubbery interior...

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Jaguar-XJ40-XJR-Monsoon-Winter-car-cover-/251618082606

I did not notice any effect on the paintwork.
After about 5 years the waterproofing rapidly started to fail, but it was excellent while it lasted.
You had to secure it with straps flung under the car - no fun if you are wearing nice clothes. You needed a torch to find them at night. The clips failed (I probably trod on them in the dark) but you can replace them easily or just knot the straps.

Too much of a nuisance for daily or even occasional drivers though; you ought not to cover the car up when its is wet and it was awkward finding somewhere to put the cover when it was wet. I used to put it in the bath - or on another car.
The whole process was annoying. More convenient if the car is laid up for longer periods I guess.

I was very satisfied with its performance for the years it lasted though. It caught a lot of bird poo!

At least it's tucked away nice and dry, not deteriorating any more.
Though I forgot to put a cover on it, now it's all dusty again!

And one more bit of progress. GF bought this carpet cleaning thing. One of those that fires out some shampoo then sucks it up again.
A test carpet was required, so I kindly volunteered one. Forgot to get a before. But there was an improvement.

Well, I've just spent the odd hour or two over the last 3 days reading this epic! I think after all that, I deserve some kind of update on where this is at now!
Naki, you should do a write up summary of the fleet as it is at the moment!

Wow, you must have had some time, as there’s 87 pages.

I am sorry to say, there really isn’t anything more to update currently. Quite simply there’s too many other cars taking my time.
The car is safe and dry insgde for past few years, so it’s not deteriorating at least.
It’s day will come one day.

Hi Naki,

Epic really the whole story including the excellent pics of before after, and what has been done. Served as excellent pool reading whilst holidaying in Spain. As a novice DD6 owner its interesting to read about the specifics of the model year and what you did to get the thing running.

Before I let mine loose I want to do the ignitions parts to avoid any breaking down or fire under the hood. The rotating arm and leads are sitting in the garage ready for installation. The dizzy is an original MM, that I checked and will be cleaned. What I did not know is that it had a seal, which makes sense to replace. Is the seal available on JCP? I can't find it. SNG Barratt?

Yes indeed.
Did you sell your XJR6? I saw it on eBay earlier this year? I assume you still have it, as you can’t survive being jagless?
