My mates at NASA have been kind to me this month, two fly bys of the ISS and this one right over my village, Cambrils. I only hope that the astronauts don’t chuck anything out of the window as I will be outside in the garden waving at them.

Have I fallen in love with another 40, not a Jag though, the 40 Meter band. I have discovered “Hamsphere 4.0” or a virtual ham radio emulator set up that runs on a PC, Mac, Android or even Iphone. It has its own antennas, plug ins and accessories. I did a lot of DXing in my misspent youth (CB and all that) and was also a radio op in the military, so I have gone back to basics on this one. I know we have smart phones, Whatsapp, Skype, and all the rest if those modern instantaneous communication packages, but there is still something basically exciting about DXing with another “ham” who is halfway up a mountain in Chile, or lives in a village in the north of Holland. I seem to have a lot of time on my hands and I need to find these added pastimes otherwise I may have to start talking to the wife.

I am signed up to receive an email from NASA when the ISS is due to fly over my location (I feel like a VIP) Anyway I received such an email and as it was such a beautiful night I went outside glass in hand ready to wave at the astronauts as they passed overhead. They were due at 21:07 hrs, but at 21:03 hrs I saw a light across the sky exactly in the coordinates given in the email, it was smaller, less luminous and just did not seem to be the old ISS I am used to. A few minutes later the real ISS passed across in its full glory on the same trajectory, after surfing the web I found out that what I had observed was an unmanned Japanese supply shuttle that is due to dock with the ISS on the 27th of September. Quite a wonderful opportunity to see the two right above my head. I just hope that the astronauts get their bread eggs, milk and daily papers on time and that the shuttle holds more goodies than just sushi.

That's really cool Norman. A good spot of the supply satellite.
Going back to the Morse posts... His boss in the Endeavour series has a Black Mark 1(?) . Not sure if it had red upholstery?

Currently focused around early cold war communist Hungary, predominantly the Rakosi era from 49 - 56, culminating the in revolution of that year.
So here is my main display from that era. I have a number of further medals, but they aren't on display.
The three medals to the left all belonged to the same worked, Csonka, Istvan. I have have the certificates for these which are framed and shown in the photo below.

A further interest linked to this is Ushankas of the cold war era, which are also shown, including two very rare Rakosi era Hungarian ones at the top, a couple of Soviet ones, and a couple of DDR ones at the bottom.

My collection also expands to Weimar/Third Reich items, Vietnam american, some British and also French items.
