6.0 V12 engine number

Postby 79goldwing » Sun Aug 12, 2018 11:34 pm

Hi,

Please don't shout at me, but I have bought I believe, a 6.0l (marelli) DD6 engine and gearbox together with all of the parts (I hope) to make it run.

I'm sorry thats another one off the UK register....

Can anyone decode the engine number 8C12131SG? I have no history, I think it was a UK car, a vin or registration number would help a lot.

Thanks,
Ray

i dont think a 6ltr marelli engine was produced ,

if 6ltr its will be lucas or Zytek ,

if its marelli , its a 5.3

Sorry BB, but XJ81 engines feature Marelli igntion. I’ve owned several and have first-hand experience with them.

This forum covers the Marelli components and their weaknesses in good detail, like in this topic viewtopic.php?t=46

The older 5.3s were equipped with Lucas units, later 5.3s (up from 1989 for the XJ-S) changed to Marelli. Only the JaguarSport/XJR-S engines featured Zytek systems.

To complete the list: X300 V12s featured dizzy-less ignition from NipponDenso.

Back to the original question: I don’t think there’s a logic to automatically deduct VIN from the engine number. Only way I can think of is sending an information request to Jaguar Heritage.

Importantly, which vehicle is the engine going into? I hope you have all the engine looms/ ECU’s etc. Plus all the vacuum hoses. Lots of small bits going along with this version of the 6.0.

Obviously, we expect you to be putting it back into an XJ81 shell where it belongs! ;)

Wow thanks for a all the guick responses. I don't know if I can comment separately to each post so this is combined.

Brake buster; I presume to have bought a DD6 engine from a 94 XJ81, I understood they were all fitted with Marelli. I have not physically checked. Also SovverBovver, can you supply a clean XJ81 body....?

My original idea was to buy a cheapie V12 and drive it overland home (Malawi), but they were out of my budget when I discovered import duties were nearly 200% of the total cost of buying and getting it here. Secondhand engines are duty free!

Naki_k; I have everything I hope to make it run, including all complete fuel system with pipes, pump and tank, full exhaust system, radiator, electric fans, air boxes, ecu, Jgate transmission computer, 3 wiring looms, basically everything the previous owner took off the donor car to make it run in a home build, including a video of it running in the donor car. I need a high ground clearance and cannot make a chassis so I'm thinking of an old (with or without) 4x4. I just missed a local Range Rover, most of the running gear has gone to Landrovers. Failing that a 2 or 3 ton lorry.

pimgmx; Your marelli info is similar to mine. Jaguar Heritage website says it will only confirm not provide numbers, without a vin or v5 I'm a bit stuck. I will ask the guy I bought it from, he may have some records.

Thanks again for all your replies, I have planned this as a 5 year retirement project, maybe I'll end up with an old mans car!

Ray
