Postby Brake buster » Sun Nov 10, 2019 10:40 pm

well, the X-type is due an MOT in 4 weeks and its going to the scrap yard in the sky ( well, down the road ), it gave me 7 years of good service and was a very competent and comfortable car that did what it said on the tin..

so today i bought this to replace it.......

What happened to the x-type then? Rot bug got it?
Was looking at some xfs recently too, they are getting ridiculously cheap, a lot of car for the money.

nothing other than being hit by a bus some months back and the insurance paying out for Cat N cosmetic damage write off, and i couldn't be arsed to keep repairing her after that, lol

so i chopped it in and got £750 for it against the XF.... and a full years MOT and a full years parts and labour warrantee thrown in

Looks good.
I think the estate is the most attractive version of the XF, and of course more practical.

This is a bit belated, but congratulations on the XF Estate purchase! Very nice indeed! Please keep us informed of it. I am interested in buying an XF soon and welcome any information on these vehicles. Enjoy!

That's a nice looking car. I'd also be interested to hear of your thoughts on the XF, BB. Is it a petrol or diesel?
Enjoy the ride....

hi , sorry , been in Oz for the last month

back to mine, its a 2.2 turbo diesel, with 8 speed auto box ( as its a sportbrake ) but also has a flappy paddle steering wheel so all 8 gears can be manually selected sequentially , also has a sport mode on the speed selector switch, drives like a dream , well sat and secure driving stance, feels very solid

only hearsay , but avoid the 2.7 as they can develop bottom end issues before 100k miles, and new engine required, so look out when searching

other than that

a known issue in the drivers footwell fusebox under the door hinge, the loom tracks water in from behind the front wheel and corrodes and shorts out that fuse box, repair is expensive and not covered under warranties etc,

mine also has the ' start/stop' function , and has two batteries, so anything over 5 years really needs new batteries to ensure trouble free motoring

other than that, condition and budget are your only factors

feel free to post links to potential cars, but at the end of the day , its up to you

Hi BB,

I hope your trip was pleasurable, especially considering the wildfires that are global news.

Many thanks for your update on the XF. Very interesting and useful information. I have an XF as my next automotive target at some point in the future, and I appreciate the updates. I live in the USA, and am wondering if the earlier models with petrol V8s that were pretty much standard here (base or supercharged), are more or less reliable than the later models' petrol Ingenium engines (which some reports I've come across indicate it is one of the most reliable engines out there). I would purchase pre-owned, but am pretty unconcerned about model year regarding styling. The differences are so nuanced between model years from the perspective of my unrefined and untrained eyes that I am unconcerned styling with regards to how old or new it is.

Do you think TATA is a good steward of Jaguar or not. I thought they have been, but I know a Jaguar and Land Rover owner there who says that TATA has a very bad reputation. I am not sure that is warranted. One supposed expert mechanic claims in popular youtube video that Jaguars haven't been any good since the 1950's, and then simplifies the whole current corporate arrangement by showing one of those microcars TATA markets to India. The implication is that current Jaguar cars are based on these microcars like the TATA Nano, and designed by inferior and incompetent engineers. My perception is that any deficiencies in a modern Jaguar (if there are any) are attributed to the amount of capital that TATA is able to pour into Jaguar / Land Rover.

Again, thanks for the information!

-Phil
