XJ40 Lattice Alloys x5

Postby Walker » Fri May 22, 2020 12:40 pm

Hello all,

I trust everybody is staying safe, and getting on with some jobs that have been on the list. I've been kept busy with work which is very fortunate for me, I do however wish I had a bit more time for the Jag than work on the new house at present. An update for my car thread is long overdue now and will certainly be coming up as time permits, incase anybody had thought it had been abandoned  . In a somewhat begrudged arrangement with Mrs Walker, I've been instructed to sell on a few bits if I am to be rewarded with a new garage, I of course know who is in charge around these parts, and have seen it wise to obey.

So, 5 Lattice alloys in the desirable 16" up for grabs. 4 really good with minimal marks, one as a spare with slightly more curbing and and ancient (scrap) tyre. The 4 are in very good condition, now I'm not using the word mint here, but hopefully the pictures are big enough for you to inspect fully.

2 x Goodyear Eagle DOT 17 225 55 16 with about 6mm across.

2 x Michelin Primacy DOT14 225 55 16 with about 7mm across.

I'm afraid I cannot be much more precise with the tyre treads, I have a hoard of gauges somewhere but the bulk of my tools are in crates in a garage which I cannot really unpack until a bigger space is at hand.

More pictures to follow. I have seen the sets available on eBay and the money they are up for. Yes, I too would rather buy another project car for the same money. So, a reasonable offer would be considered by any member on here. I understand people may be feeling the pinch and that is of course a consideration, as is my location up here in the sunny Scottish Highlands. So we can come to an arrangement I am sure, plenty of inside storage here if you want me to hang on to them for you, I can put on a pallet for you if you would organise one (nationwide is about £85 I'm told). Alternatively, I have a very economical estate and wouldn't think twice about driving them down to you for fuel money.

I do have a few more things to preen from the hoard. A certain blue tweed manual 2.9 would be on that list, with a very similar approach to price and moving it.

Take care & keep safe!

Forgot to say there are 20 x short alloy bolts and 4 x NOS Black and silver centers also available in the negotiations.

The centers are dated 02.

I was once asked to clarify this on other items I had because "if they do not have a date they are not genuine Jaguar parts" . Did you know that? Neither did I. Would somebody go to all that trouble to reproduce something so intricate and then forget the bleeding date on the back, dunno. So, should this person surface again, rest knowing I have taken on your wisdom and I now carry the good word with me.

Couple of things I've been asked:

I had arranged with The Wheel Specialist in Inverness to refurbish these once I had got them home from collecting them. I promptly cancelled this once I had got my hands on them as I could live with the minor imperfections the best 4 had. They do not appear to have been at all faffed about with and have had a fairly easy time of it. I removed them from an X300 that was being broken by a chap in Dundee. That car was by far one of the most unfortunate I have seen and these were swapped because the guy wanted the XJR alloys off the car. The tyres that were on them at the point I bought them were a mix of perished Pirelli's and balding Nexen, perhaps a record of the car's fall from grace. I had tyres I had to hand put on by a garage with new valves and all where balanced.

Short wheel nuts were bought because I did not realise the long ones on my car poke out beyond the face of the alloy and looked like something out of the wacky racers. Something else learnt there!
